Ing In Eighteen Months.
Two weeks from yesterday will wit
ness the departure of Scrunton's Klon
dike colony, more familiarly known ns
Vcttor's Klondike cadets.
While the newspaper paragrapher
has been having hid little joke with the
project and the projectors, the cadets
have been quietly but determinedly
making their preparations and now
they are or!., waiting for the sailing
day of the shin which la to carry them
to fortune and it Igidity surely ono If
not the oilier.
According to present calculations the
party will number possibly eighteen,
probably eleven, likely nine and bar
ring unforsecn obstacles, assuredly,
tight. The eight who have put up their
pro rata assessment as an ernest of
their Intention to go are:
.!. VETTER. druggist IVnn avenue
ADAM KiTLACK, carpenter. Hecch
street.
SAMPHL RINOSDORF, ex-hotel keeper,
12'l Simth Lincoln avenue.
PRANCES E. EIIRGOOD, blacksmith,
Diuimorc
Al.ltEKT OISNER. engineer, Ln. Plume.
UEOIUJE II. SPTtlEKLAND. machinist,
1'ittHtOll.
.lOIIN SWEET, prosx-ctor. Ml. Pocono.
, mine foreman, Peck-
vllle.
The dashes reprrsents a, member of
tho party, who. for some reason not
made known, desires that his name
should net appear In the papers In this
connection, until after he has started,
ut least.
TOOLS. CLOTHTNC., ETC.
Tlie rear room of Mr. Vetter's drug
i-li. re is alrt-aily assuming the appenr
niu'i' of u .voiing warehouse. UoXt'rf
and banelb and cans, containing tools
and medicines and clothing and the
ltk-' are piled celllng-high and more
consignments of these and like articles
aie coming in every day. A forceps
for pulling tet'th and celluloid eye-pro-ti
etors to guard against driving snow
In the winter and mosciultoes In the
summer which are among the para
phernalia give an Idea of the atten
tion which the party has given to de
tails. A sectional hand drill, with two
bits and 40 feet of pipe, to be used in
prospecting Is on hand and has been
tested In Sir. Vetter's back yard.
The underclothing, chamois vests,
Miirlin rllles, Colt revolvers, magnify
ing glasses, scales and such like have
also been purchased here and are in
the boxes in th back mom of the
drug stole. Sleeping bags are on their
way from Now York. v. hat other tools
are needed, together with the provi
sions will he- purchased at Seattle.
The party goes as a co-partnership.
The expense ore paid out of a common
fund and whatever they make !j to be
divided share and shar- alike. They
oven go so far a to agree that if any
thing should haopon to any of the par
ty his family shal' get his share even
though he should not get as far as the
gold fields. Jhs-t where the line will
be drawn has not been decided as yet
but It in likely to be agieed upon that
when a man boards the ship at Seattle
he or his heirs become a sharer In the
profits no imtter what should befall
him. excepting of course, that he
should commit slinie act that reason
ably would cause him to forfeit his
claim.
NO PLAYING FAI.SK.
There Is also a provision In the agree
ment that any man found guilty of
playing h'a fellows false by secreting
gold or the like, he shall forfeit all
flalm upon the company and be drum
med out of camp. The partnership Is
to continue until mutually dissolved.
The expedition will leave here Mon
day. March 21, going by way of the
Delaware and Hudson to Plttston,
thence via the Iiilgh Valley to Buf
falo and thence across the continent
by the Grand Trunk to Seattle. There,
on April r, they will board the steam
er Kxcelslor on which they have al
leady secured berths and start on n
fourteen-hundred mile sail to Copper
City, on 11 luce William sound, a
couple of hundred miles north of Dyeit
pass, the common road to the Klon
dike lesion.
From Copper City they go overland
thirty miles to Copper river. Here
they will build their boats and as soon
ns the river permits begin their strug
gle against the stream to tho north.
Leaving the Copper river when the
Siana Is reached, they will tow up
this tributary to n point which Is only
seven miles overland to a tributary
of the Tamanii, which latter I a tribu
tary to the Yukon. They will nail
down the Yukon to where the Koyukuk
is met and thence up the Koyukuk to
the central Alaskan gold fields, which
are situated about n thousand miles
to the west of the Klondike proper and
about the same distance from the West
Alaskan coast. In a straight lino this
point Is about 300 mllta north of Cop
per City. The route altogether is not
over fix thousand miles long. Some, of
the party. talk of returning In eighteen
months' time.

VERY DELICATE OPERATION.
It Was Performed nt the West Side.
IIopllul Recently.
Tt Is not often th'at a case of such
dtfPculty presents Itself to the surgeon
as was operated upon last week at the
West Side hospital. In fact, nn opera
tion, such as this was, has never been
performed In the city of Scranton and
is rarely met with In tho records of
hospitals of tho larger cities, In this
country or abroad,
Dr. Bteln, to whom the patient first
applied, recognised the severity of tho
case and calladjjt;, fcbrisultatlon Dr,
Carl Seller, ferjnerl? of Ph'ilAdelphla,
M well aa Dr. "JXe'etT Sums. These
three specialists removed the offending
bonoy tumor from tho young lady's
"face under the most dlstresslnK cir
cumstances and In doing b encoun
tered most unexpected difficulties, and
tho patient Is relieved and progressing
rapidly to complete recovery.
A new nose was made by artificial
means, by chiselling through an Inch
of bono which obstructed the breath
ing space of tho nose, and after the ex
ternal wound had been sowed up, tho
patient presented not only a counten
ance not disfigured, but, on the con
trary, her features was decidedly Im
proved. 1 AMUSEMENTS I
Mantcll's New l'lnr.
To thoso who can disassociate Robot t it.
Mantell from the particular character In
which ho was so excellent, "Monbars,"
his newest character, Louis do Ueaumont
In "A Secret Warrant" must bo In eery
way satisfying. It Is tho samo stylu of
character as Monbars In almost every
particular, but it Is not as well-flttlng m
various respects. Thero Is u something
about it that must make oven his most
ardent admirers feci that they do not see
him nt his best.
"A Secret Warrant." withal, Is n very
entertaining play. Tho author, W. A.
Trcmayne. u Montreal newspaper man,
has seized upon a fruitful incident in
French history and has made, It can be
fairly said, the most of It. Tho time Is
laid In lT'.'O during tho regency of Philippe,
Due d' Orleans. Gnbrlello do St. Victor, a
desperate and scheming woman, who is a
favorlto beauty with tho regent. Is rath
er rudely thrust asldo by tho dashing,
careless but hypocrite-detesting Louis dr.
Beaumont, cnptiiln of tho King's guards.
Louis encounters Mnrguertto ltertrand,
daughter of a pleblan goldsmith, who
secures entree, or, rather Is led into court
circles by a baigaln between her title
hunting father and aunt and tho fortune
seeking St. Victor family, aftlantimf hor
and their dissolute son, Henri do St. Vic
tor. Deaumont and Henri quarrel. To
save her brother from Beaumont's sword
that he may marry tho rich goldsmith's
daughter, Qabrkilo Induces tho regent to
conllno Ueaumont In tho bastllc. John
Law, the comptroller general. Who Is a
bosom friend of Beaumont, secures his
release on condition that he quits France.
On his way abroad Beaumont stops at
an Inn just outside of Paris where ho
finds the St. Victors and tho Bertrands
assembled to sign the marriage contract.
Beaumont presents himself and vows
that ho will have the duet out with young
St A'lctor. Gabrkile dispatches a courtier
for a letter do cachet, a warrant with tho
name left blank. Tho regent sends It.
Beaumont captures It and writing young
St. Victors name In the blank space Is
ready when the regent comes on tho
scene on his way to a stag hunt to vir
tually dictate terms, tho regent well
knowing that It needed but a disclosure
such as Beaumont could make to nrouso
the populace that was then on tho ex
ploding point.
Harry St. Maur as tho Marquis do St.
Victor, Mlfs Maile Booth Russell as (3a
brlello and Miss Rosalie Knote as Mar
guerite were particularly strong In their
respective parts and tho company, as a
whole, was very capable.
t'nuutleroy Well Presented.
A small audience saw "Little Lord
Fauntleroy" presented in a very satisfac
tory manner ut tho Academy of Music
last night. Kills Smedley assumed the
iolo of the diminutive hero of the piece
in a captivating manner. He was sur
rounded by a company of vety competent
actors.
This and tomorrow afternoon and even
ings the piece1 will be repeated.
Tho bnu'vor. Detective.
At tho Linden last night "The Lawyer
Detective," a five-act comedy drama, was
put on for a three days' run. It is a
drama with plenty or change and action
In It and Is never dull. It was very clev
erly done by the stock company of tho
house.
Miss Kemp gave lenewed evldenco tf
her versatility by her character work In
tho roles of Bridget Malono, a rolllckIn:r
Irish girl, nail Polly, a roysterlng fron
tier maiden with a prcdellctlon for re
volvers and bar rooms.
W. A. Robinson scored a decided hit In
a German comedy role and Clunles II.
MrKinley was seen to good advantage In
the role of tho lawyer detective. W. J.
Sullivan won r.iuch favorable comment by
his work, as did Miss Lucy ParKer In the
role of .Mrs. Hilton. "Tho Lawyer Detec
tive" will be repeated today and tomor
row afternoons and evenings.
Tho Idol's Eyo Tonight.
Lovers of light opera will tonight, at
the Lyceum, have offered to them hero
the latest fruit of the pens of Victor Her
bert and Harry B. Smith. Both gentle
men consider that "Tho Idol's Bye," the
vAtlo of this production, represents the
best work they have ever done. The
story offers a great many situations tor
comedy work, and Mr, Daniels Is said
to havo mado tho most of them. Mr,
Daniels has a humor distinctively his
own, and it was with tha view to meet
ing It that Mr. Smith wroto as hu lias
done. Tho opera abounds In catchy music
besides having much composition of a
very high order. Mr. Herbert has given
to the music the rich color of the Orient
and has received much prnlso from crit
ics of other cities. The cast with which
Manager I .a Shelle has surround Mr. Dan
iels Is said to bo unusually proficient.
The Prisoner ofZendn.
A source of considerable pleasure to
doubt to many theuter goers In this city
is tho announcement that tho famed New
York Lyceum success, "Tho Prisoner of
.endn," will bo fcen hero on Thursday at
tho Lyceum. Tho play will bo presented
by Daniel Frohman's superb company In
cluding Howaid Gould and others who
were conspicuous In tho success of last
years tour of tho country. All tho orig
inal scenery, costumes and splendid ef
fects used In tho Lyceum production will
bo seen here.
Tho Last Stroke.
Manager Jacob Lilt Is a producer of
melodrama who kueps up with the times.
Ill- lntfHr vi.nllirn Thfi Lnst Mlrnke."
which will be si en nt tho Academy of
inees, commencing, Thursdaj, March 10,
deals with the present rebellion In Cuba,
and it is described as an exciting and ad
mirably constructed drama, highly sea
soned with good, wholesome American
patriotism.
The Islo of Champagne.
Somo people are so constituted that
their very laugh Is infectlous.cvcn though
tho thing they laugh about may bo but
a trifle. Such Is tho casa with Hlchard
Oolden In '"I ho lslo of Champagne"
opera, which plays at the Lyceum Fri
day evening, AH who have seen Oolden
In any of tho plays In which he has
starred, dcclaro that It Is the man who
lends humor to tho lines and not the nu
mor In them originally. The sixty mem
bers, in support are people nhose talent
entitles them to act In a production so
thoroughly first-class and to such a stel
lar light as Mr. Gulden.
