chief As Mr Kelly receives no pay
foi sen Ing on the board ot health of
which he Is president, he will not hae

Paint's rlsht to seie on the boaid of
li'nlth. Maor Bailey a enr uro con
tendeJ that Dr. Paine vvai ineligible
to servo as a health official Inasmuch
as he receives pay as a pool director.
Dr. Paine held that the law making

Two CnucimcN Tuduv.
Today, between -the houis of 4 and 7
o'clock, Democratic caucuses will be
held In the Sixth and r.ighteenth
wards. The common council Incum
bents of each waid are aspirants foi
the higher seats of select council, but
the present holdeis wish to retain their
i-eats and are putting up a fight for
them. Thus It cames about that M. H.
Claike, select councilman of the Sixth,
Is opposed by his common council col
league, John I"3 Regan, and the same
Is true of M. J. Uurns and James F.
Noone, of the Eighth.
The similarity of contest In the wauls
for Its highest ofllce ceases at this point,
however. The two candidates lu the
Sixth will have It out between them
selves, but In the eighteenth, ex-City
Assessor Thomas O'Royle and John
Hoban, of Emmet btieet. ptopose to
take a shy ut the select nomination
and have made a canvass along that
line For common council, Hotelkeepei
Patrick r. Calpln, In the Sixth, and
Thomas Mortis, of Railroad avenue,
of the Eighteenth, seem to have no
opponents thus far.

THEATRICAL ATTRACTIONS.
Kxtrnvngnnti nt Muslo Unit
Jermon's Black Crook Extravaganza
company began a three days' engagement
at Music hall yesterday afternoon, The
company contains two dozen persons over
half of whom are very entertaining
vaudeville artists. They give a lively up-to-date
perfoi mance In which there are
no dull moments,
The performance opens with a musical
fi i co "Americans In London," In which
the Prince of Wales and members of the
ultra-smart set are very conspicuous.
"A Night In Paris" Is tho suggestive title
of the faice that closes the entertain
ment. The scene Is laid In Mabllle and
the characters are such as frequent that
famous resort who sing and dance In an
entertaining wav.
In the olio appear Kitty W lis, vocal
ist, Emery and Marlowe, In liavesty.imd

and ones quite as bad In English Larry

The compan will repeat the perform

In "Blue Jeans," Joseph Aithur has
given to the stage a play which has
strong claims to credit for oiiglnallty.
The unexpected wav In which some of
the situations develop Is unique and
commands Interest. There are, too, sev
eral scenes which are Indeed delightful
from their fidelity to nature. Realism
Is a strong feature of "Uluo Jeans,"
among Its manifestations being a live
yearling bull afterwards seen piping hot
as the sacrifice to the baibecue, a -village
btasH band; a three from which
real apple blossoms are shaken; and a
saw mill In full operation, "Htue Jeans"
will be seen at the Lyceum Saturday,
Jan. 8, matinee and evening.
Nickelodeon Museum.
Stage performances and curio-hall
shows follow eacli other so rapidly ut the
Nickelodeon museum that the entertain
ment Is almost continuous. And a very
Interesting and instructive entertainment
It Is, free from all objectionable features,
and quite faultless. The Japanese lady
magician Is quite the ptettlest and most
meritorious act seen hero In some time,
and the whole stage performance excels
In many wav. The cuilo-hall Is also
excellent. The children will be given
free spats on Saturday afternoon, the
only cost being five cents foi udmlsslon.
