ing out of a short ami appropriate pro
gramme. Then wore recitations by
the Misses Lillian Towksbury. Kthcl
Hovnn, Edith I.lndiibury. Margaret
Powell. Ethel Jones. Helen Uauer. Olive
Itambold. Eva Welsentluli, and Jessie
Miller. The Misses llertlut and Mabel
Colvln sang n duet, and solos were
given by the Misses Margaret Phillips
and Olwen Jones, and songs by the
members of the primary department.
Then Santa Claus, In the person of C.
P. HatenUerg. appeared, and, to the
happy little children, boxes of sweetH
weie distributed. The older ones re
ceived thflr share later.
Although Santa Claus did not visit
the members of the Sabbath school of
St. David's Episcopal church, there
were small gifts from him to be dis
tributed, and It was done In the lec
ture of the church by the teachers. I
Devotional exercises wero conducted
previous to the distribution, consisting
of ritualistic work and the singing of
hymns and eaiols. The services were
In charge of Uev. E. J. Haughton, rec
.lor of St. Mark's church. Dunmoro.
The rector was assisted by Charles
1'razer, superintendent. The Bible
classes of the school presented Mr.
Enazer with a bet of articles for use
on a library table comprising a desk
calendar, pen tray and papr knife.
The beautiful cantata, "The Stoiy of
the Stnr." was repeated last evening at
the Sumner Avenue Presbyterian
church for the benefit of th many who
could not see It Friday evening, when
It was first given. The members of the
Hand of Hope were much better than
nt their first, attempt. Chorister Bez
aleel Davles was In charge, and Mrs.
John L. James acted as accompanist.
At the conclusion of the cantata small
gifts were distributed amonix the mem
bers of the Sabbath school by Santa
Claus In the person of Bez. Brown. The
first prize of a five-dollar gold piece
nnd the second prize of a gold ring
for the highest number of tickets sold
were awarded to the Misses Annie Da
vis and Elizabeth Grlfllths respectively.
AFTER CHH1STMAS NIGHT.
George Hern, of 315 Hampton street,
was held In $500 ball for his appear
ance at court by Aldermnn Moses last
evenlngon a ehargeof felonious wound
ing with Intent to kill. The warrant
was sworn out by Mrs. David Jones,
acting for her husband, who Is In a
badly battered state, as a result of the
alleged assault. The arrest was made
by Constable Tim Jones.
At the healing it developed that Mr.
Jomp, who resides at 527 Meridian
street, near the defendant, claimed

much Improved yesterday. His alleged

morning and were released from the

SKATING ACCIDENT.
David Motzenbackcr, the 12-yenr-nld
son of Mr. and Mm. Sylvester Motzen
bacher, of 11.1 North Everett avenue,
fell and broke his wrist last evening
about 7.30 o'clock, while practicing on
his n:w skates a Christmas present.
Ills father took him to the West Side
hospital, where the fracture was set by
the house physician.
BULLET REMOVED.
Dr. F. C. Hall yesterday morning re
moved the small leaden bullet which
Leo McAlonn shot Into th- bridge of
Jesse Lasher's nose Sunday afternoon.

awaiting Identification, were burled yes

store ot G. W. I). Allen. A year ago she
was compelled to glvo up work on account
of failing health. Miss Russell leaves a

Anthony McIIale, an old and respected
resident of Olyphant, died yesterday af
ternoon after u short Illness of pneu
monia. Deceased was born In Ireland and
was about 5S years of age. Resides his
