session on Tuesday evening. After
'ordeiing seveial bills paid, the ques
tion of lighting the town was again
dl.sciifsed. Several stormy arguments
were used on each side, which were
encored lv the large number of spec
tators present. Seoretaiy Little has
not yet signed the ordinance, although
five members voted for the measure nt
the last meeting. Attorney J. M. Gar
man, representing A. II. Squlers, of
Tunkhannock, was present nnd related
that It was necessary to obtain Mr.
Little's signature and that after the
ordinance would be published and con
firmed bv the courts, the company se
curing the franchise could then go on
with the privileges granted them. Vn
ness strong opposition Is met with by
the citizens of the town, the borough
will be lighted In a few months.

session of the State GrnnKe. Patrons of
Husbandry, today, an address was mudo
by J T. Itothrock, State Forestry com
missioner, on colony organization. Ho
gave a history of the Granite movement
In this state, and Its connections with
the various departments on Capitol Hill.
Secretary J. T. Allman submitted his
annual report, which showed tint 1 )
now members were admitted durlnu the
year, and that nine Granges were or
ganized. The report of Treasurer Septi
mus T. Neln showed a sllcht gain in
the rcco'pts over those of the previous
year, and the treasury to be In a healthy
condition. Addresses were made by J.
Bell Itoblnson, of Toronto, past master
of the Dominion Oranco of Canada, and
other prominent members.
The opening session of the National
Grange was held in the Supreme court
room. Almost tho entire session was con
sumed In making up the roll of delegates
and arranging other preliminaries.
Auditor Geneial Mylln made nn address
nt the afternoon session on tho tax con
fi fence revenue bill question. He thought
It ti mutter of doubt ns to whether the
passage of this act would Insure to the
farmers the Kieator benellts they ex
pected to ileilve. Ex-Senator Gerard C.
Brown, of Yoik. presented the report of
the legislative committee. The burning
of the Capitol Is referred to In the le
port, and a review Is made of tho work
accomplished by the Grange from Us
Inception. Colonel Robert II. Thomas, of
Mechanicsburg, delivered on addtess on
the life and work of the late James
Yorkum. the llrst worthy master of the
State Grange.
This evening the State Grange con
ferred the degree of "Flora." Tomorrow
evening the National Grange will confer
the seventh degree.
Mr. Rhone stated at the session of tho
Stato Grange this morning that there
was no politics in the Grange, notwith
standing the ri ports contained in news

of Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, In

New Planters House, St. LouJs, Decem
ber 2, for th" purpose of agreeing upon a
quarantine line with reference to Ar
kansas and Tennessee on account of
southern fever, to be established for 1&9S
and lequest agriculture to co-operate In
the establishment of such a line as shall
bo decidid upon.
It Is hoped that at the confeicnee be
tween the states of Tennessee, At Kansas
nnd the northern states mentioned, a
lino can be determined that will bo ab
solutely safe to cattlo Interests In tho
northern states without doing any Injus
tice or creating unnecessary haidshlp
upon cattlemen of the southern states In
volved. A majority of the states In
cluded in tho call have signified a desire
for a meeting and their intention of at
