Defeated Bioghamton 24-0 in Saturday's High School Game at Athletic Park-Line Up of Teams. The Scranton High school team clearly showed Its superiority over the eleven of the Ulnghamton High school In Saturday's foot ball game at Ath letic Park. The local eleven made S points In the first and 1C In the second half, with Ulnghamton In no hopes of scoring at anv time. Scranton's defensive work wna very crude, but that of the Hlnghamton lansj was worse. The former excelled In ail kinds of play and In this, their llrst game of the season, made a show ing sulllclently good to warrant tho belief that they will keep their blue nnd yellow above tho colors of any equally weighted eleven they may meet this season. This statement is made upon their good general style of play In Saturday's game, which had ono serious drawback, however. It was the rule for nt least one and some times two or three Scrantonlans to be laid out after each play. The recov eries were quick, but It all showed the players to either bo out of condition or pandering to the sympathy of the onlookers. Either was had. About 300 persons, mostly students ot the Scrnnton High school, were on tho field. They kept up a perpetual din of yells. Ulnghamton won the toss nnd chose the north goal, which was favored by a strong diagonal wind. From tho kick-off Scrnnton adopted a rushing and bucking style of play and with nn occasional end play scored Its llrst touchdown In 12 minutes. Battln missed a goal. Do Bow got the ball from the Ulnghamton kick-off nnd aid ed by good guarding by Tewksbury, ran through the entire opposing eleven. No goal was made. Score, 8-0. Second halt: Hull made tho first touchdown nnd Gibbons nnd Do Bow quickly followed with two more, Mice kicking two goals and falling In his last attempt. The ball was always on Binghamton terri tory. Tho foot ball ttnm of the School of tho Lackawanna played Its llrst pamo !n Wllkes-Barro last Saturday ngalnst thu Wllkes-Barro high school. Soveral of tho students accompanied tho team. Although tho team hnd not played befora and had practiced but little. It was expected to glvo n good account of Itself. The boys to turned In tho evening Jubilant. Tho scoro stood 6 to 2 In their favor, and they had received no favor at tho hands of tho ref eree. There was considerable fumbling behind tho line. Indicating a want of prac tice together. This will bo nvercomo by steady work and It Is evident that In Hanahue, Mott nnd Cooney this team has a trio that will bo hard to beat. Uryden at quarter Is uIbo going to make, a strong player. Of tho work of tho lino it Is sulllclent to say that In tho second half, with thu ball within llvo yards of tho goal line, It held Its oponents for eight downs. The spirit of tho team and their determined play reminded their friends of tho best teams that this school has over had, of the days of Gelbert and tho Lathropes. Tho touchdown was mado by Captain Hanahue a few moments after tho gamo began. Tho goal wns kicked by Mott. The ecoro against tho Lackawnnna boys wns mado on a safety In which Wnlsh secuted tho ball after a fumble. LOCAL FOOT BALL NOTES.
