D , of Pittston, who spoke upon the subject, "The Genesis and Kcilptuial Authority of Piesbjterlan ism " He chose for his text the twen tieth chapter of the Acts of the Apostles, the s-eventeenth and twenty eighth erses. Among other things he bald: "The moderator has explained the subject and It has been thoroughly ventilated, and as I look oer the audi ence I am reminded of a general assem bly 1 attended twenty-five or thirty 1 ears azo, where a number of minis ters were discussing the subject whether the Presbyterian chuich was Milted to the colored people. The ne glect had an Idea that the Methodist and Baptist churches were best suited for the colored people. While the dis cussion was going on an old darkey In the rear of the church arose and said: 'People do not understand Pies byteilanlsm. Brethren, Presbyteilan lsm Is Bible and common sense.' The name Presbyterlanism suggests Itself to be what it Is. It Is taken from the Gieek woid Presbufrlos. Tha genesis of Presbyterlanism Is tnat from Noah, Moses, Judges, Kings and so on to the piesent Is a government by elders. Church government Is represented by ciders ordained and set apart by lay ing on hands of Presbytery. Presbyteilan government Is the most charitable of all church government. He said, In pait: "Presbyterian worship Is some thing more than meie deportment of heart. It teaches us that the religion Is to be kept holy. We are also taught that we shall so live In our homes that our Inlluence shall be felt. We are also taucht that we as parents should see that pvery one around us, servants and children, should refrain from all secular work on the Sabbath, and that the dav should be commenced with prayer."
