AN AFFLICTED WOMAN.
Remains of the Two Children of Mrs.
David S. Hughes Burned Beside
Their Father.
The aflllctlon which has so recently
come upon Mrs. David S. Hughes, of
314 Hughes court, by the death of her
husband in April and last week the loss
of two children on the same day, has
aroused the sympathy of the entire
community. Yesterday afternoon the
funeral services of the children were
held and the attendance numbered
many hundred.
The funeral services were conducted
at the late residence and Rev. AV. P.
Davis, pastor of the Wayne Avenue
Baptist church, offlclated. Rev. n. E.
Williams, of London, assisted. The
sermons preached by both divines were
vervtsJmnresslve and voiced the sincere
sympathy which the friends of the be
reaved mother desired to convey. At
the conclusion of the services the cor
tege moved to the Washburn street
cemetery, where the remains of both
children were laid at rest beside their
father. A very touching scene occurred
when the members of the Junior Young
People's Baptist Union, of which the
dead children were members, solemnly
marched to the graves and strewed the
cofflns with ti wreath of (lowers.
The pall-bearers for Genet were:
Hugh Williams, William Williams,
Henry Lewis and William Hughes.
For Delia, Frank Nlcholls, John Ed
wards, Sanford Phillips and Edward
Lewis acted as pall-bearers.
"went before" Indicated his protecting

After spending the past four months
In a trip through the far west, Rev. D.
E. Williams, of London, returned here
on Saturday and preached again at the
Flist Welsh Baptist church yesterday
nt both services. His sermon of the
morning was delivered In Welsh and
lie spoke In English at the evening
service.
His sermon of the evening was
preached from the passage found In the
gospel of Mark, 10-32, "And Jesus went
before them." The mnln Idea of his
pennon was the leadership of Christ,
with which was closely associated the
Master's solicitude and His protection.
Under the head of his leadership Is
found the predominant quality of His
divinity. The coming from and going
to His Father. His character was a
revelation to men and the natural sym
pathy which resulted aioused the sense
of being guided or lead. The moral ef
fect produced by this leadership indi
cated His nobility and holiness. "There
was no yea and nay In Him."
Then Christ Is Hope. The service or
mission of Christ was to convey hope
and then raise man to his proper sphere
He showed mankind that the best was
jet to come. His influence tended to
uplift and elevate all men "whosoever
would." He also demonstrated to man
that He was able to do that which He
had caused him to believe He would
bring about.
They were going up to Jerusalem, the
holy city, and the very fact that He
Relieved Mrs. Morgans of Her rocket
Hook In IJroud IJuv Light.
A bold attempt was made to rob Mrs.
Mnrenns. of Academy street, Saturday
afternoon, while she wns walking nlong
Mullein street. The highwayman was
Edward Jones, who recently served a
term in the county Jail for a similar
offense. Jones stopped Mrs. Morgans
and injulred where ho could find a
person whom he named. Mrs. Morgans
told him she knew no such person, nnd
while she was speaking Jones seized
the pocketbook, which contained some
thing over $47, nnd dashed up the
street.
He was overtaken by Patrick Murray,
who gave chase. Mr. Murray Is a driver
for Luce Brothers nnd, catching sight
of the lleelng man. after whom Mrs.
Morgans was calling "stop that man,
he soon overtook the culprit. The thief
tossed the purse Into a neighboring
yard, but it was recovered. Jones was
given a hearing yesterday morning be
fore Alderman Moses and committed
in default of $500 ball.
