CASE OF RATTLES.
Spoiled Rochester's Lead and Let the
: Miners Win la Their Last
Inning.
Poor pitching: and two bad cases of
rattles in the "box were the reasons for
tho Miners' victory over the Brownies
yesterday. Hard luck had nothing to
do with it as "vVeidman's crowd had tho
gamo cinched up to the Scranton. half
of the seventh inning by a score of 8 to
3, but at that point Gannon fell a
victim to a terrific din of rootinc; and
rjave three passes to first, two singles
and throe runs before he was eucoed
ed by Yerrick in. tho mld.it of the both
er. Yerrick in tho last of tho last half
of tho teventh nnd In. the eighth was as
lacking of nerve as was Gannon and
in the midst of tho continued noise
from bljachers and grandstand gave
ono walk, was found for five singles
and hit Bonner, all of which gave the
Miners three runs nnd tho game.
The flld support by both teams was
of a high order. Mulvey's error of an
assist by Gannon in the first inning
cost a run but that was the only vital
mistake of the Brownies outside tho
box. Dooley, besides playing an excel
lent first base, batted in, Ave of Roch
ester's eight runs and wns hit by a
pitched ball and scored in the fifth
Inning on Richter's lly over the center
field fence. It was tho flist home run
made over the Scranton fence this sea
son and won for the elongated outgar
dener the applause he deserved.
Henry's work at second was nearly
ns good as any seen here this year
and to him, Dooley and Rlchter Is due
the credit for tho hard fight put up by
the Brownies.
Beard, Bonner, Massey and Magulre
performed about all of the Miners'
field work. All hands, Massey and
Gunson excepted, figured in the run
getting in. the two final chapters.
Lynch'a single, a walk to Shearon
and Dooley"s two-baser for two Roch
ester runs opened tha game. For
Scranton. in tho first Inning, O'Brien
was hit "by a pitched ball, went to sec
ond on Walters' single and to third on
Mulvey's error on Gannon's assist, fol
lowing Beard's attempted sacrifice.
Eagan forced O'Brien at tho plate and
Walters scored on Bonner's fly to left
field.
After Glllon hit Dooley and Rlchter
hit over tho fenco for a homer and two
runs it locked to be all over but tho
shouting. Two runs developed, how
ever, in tho Scranton half on singles
by Waltera, Beard and Bonner, which
made the tallv 4-3.
In the fourth, fifth and sixth a base
on balls was all that tho Miners could
get off Gannon, while in the fifth,
Lynch's doubl. a walk to Shearon and
Dooley's slrcle netted two runs, und
two more doeloped in tho peventh on
Shearon's double, Doolpy's triple and a
single by Rlchter. That made tho
icoro 8 to 3 with tho long end in favor
of Rochester.
With but four singles, two passes to
first and a hit by pitcher off Gannon
MP to the last of the seventh, the Min
ors' cause Eceiued hopeless, but tho
epidemic of rooting put Gunnon out of
the gamo nnd flabergasted Yerrick
and the Miners in their; last two in
nings got tho six runs necessary to
win.
