were entertained for him. It was
thought that worry and anxiety Inci

upset him, and that a few day' quid
and rest would soon retore him. A
fortnight ago he went to Cresco, near
Mt. Pocono, Pn., und his friend nnd

nicely. He suddenly grew worse, how
ever and on Tuesday wns hurried to
his home, No. 430 Hanson htteet He

Held n Steamer nt Honolulu, Hoping
for Annexation News.
San Francisco, July 9. The steamer
City of Peking, just arrived, was a
day behind her regular time. Captain
Smith explained the delay by saying
the vessel was detained at Honolulu
on a request from the olllcers of the
Hawaiian government, who asked -that
the vessel remain In the harbor until
the Mariposa from San Francisco
should arrive, by which the Hawatl
ans hoped to hear that the annexation
treaty had been ratified by the United
States senate, and that they could call
themselves Americans.
The leaders of the annexation party
had purchased all the firecrackers on
the Islands and were preparing for a
big celebration, but the news to fully
suit them did not come, and the cele
bration was declared off. The Hawall
ans hoped by holding the steamer to
send congratulatory messages to this
country.
