The hall had been elaborately decorat

Tho programme opened i h a violin
and piano duet by Professor llessler
and Miss Catherine Smith, ot Susque
hanna. A dialogue followed between
Bessie Adloy and Helen Stanton. A
recitation was given by MIbs Eva Jones
and a vocal duet by Mrs. E. B. Gardner
nhd Mrs. Rumsly. An amusing dia
logue "Furmers Coming to Town," was
Riven by Robert Gardner, Joseph Sher
rer, Jane" Kllpatrlck and Charles Firth.
A duet followed by Helen Stanton and
Eva Jones, with a humorous recitation
by Mary Bhlel. Robert Gardner and
Professor Hcssler gave a violin duct,
with Miss Smith as accompanist. Bec
ltatlons were given by Mrs. J. A. Norrls
and Misses Minnie Jones and Jennie
Myers and a song by Mls3 Magglo
Morgan. A delightful season was en
Joyed ana refreshments were served.
The general committee consisted of

the funeral of Michael Murphy, who
was killed at No. 1 tunnel on Monday,
at St. Rose church yesterday when a
requiem mass was celebrated by Bev.
"W. A. Nealon. An Impressive sermon
was given as a tribute to the upright
life of the departed. Division No. 11,
Ancient Order Hibernians, Board of
America; the Farmers' Alliance and
those employed with the deceased fol
lowed to the crave. A largo number
of Moral offerings wtre borne by the
flower bearprs: Timothy Gllhool, Mich
ael Duggan, Henry Nelson, Michael
Gallagher, James Pacev Burt Hudson
and Joseph Lavelle. The pallbearers
were: Thomas Gllhool, Thomas Big
gins, Thomas Mullen, Patrick Clifford,
"William Connor, Martin Battle.Thomas
Neary, Thomas O'Neill, Michael Clif
ford, Hugh Mooro and James Cogglns.

The unfortunate man, who was
drowned on Tuesday afternoon at
about G o'clock near Simpson, was a
Busslan Polander named William Per
vitsky, about CO years of ago. He fell
from the old bridge a distance of about
fifteen feet. He was rendered uncon
scious by the fnll and assistance came
too late to save Ills life. Coroner Long
street, of Scranton, came yp&terddy
noon and the following acted as tho
Jury: James A. Collins, II. P. Keifer,
vBemard King, Patrick Healey, John
Ledger, Michael Snee. The deceased
has been In this country about thirty
years. A son, Peter. Ilve3 In Scranton.
The funeral will bp held this after
noon, interment in St. Boso cemetery.

to be played for by the amateur base
ball teams between Archbald and Simp

The general sentiment has Indicated
that business places should be closed
on Saturduy. There nre many attrac
tions arranged for that day and It Is
the day we celebrate. It would be use

and holiday, which began this week,

understood that the stores will be
closed Saturday, May 29.

The regular monthly meeting of the

of viewing a silk mill nnd to urge upon
tho owners to locate a mill In this town,

the Taylor Silk company will also bo
present and make an offer that will
mean an investment in this town of
$2&,000, and aleo employment to several
hundred workmen, which means a dis
tribution of about 330,000 annually in
wages. Tho manufacturers aro willing
to come hero nnd offer us a plant worth
$10,000 to $30,000, and it rests with the
people of this town to say 1 they will
accept this offer or not,
Mrs. William Llghtner, of Hyde Park,
visited relatives In this placo yesterday.
The Nebo Congregational church of
this vicinity aro making great prepa
ration for tho tenth year sorvlces.whicli
will bo held on May 29, 30 and 31. There
will be in attendance for the event some
of the brightest and ablest ministers in

borough were closed for a vacation of

The Junior Order United American
Mechanics, No. 81, will meet this even

Tho borough council met In regular
session on Tuesday evening for the
purpose of acting upon the question of
bonding the borough. Th'o council de
cided to bond the borough for $19,800 at
4 per cent, for tho -purpose of erecting
an etectrla light plant and Works.
The merchants of Taylor and vicinity
will close their places of business on
Saturday In observance of Decortlon
Day.
Mr. John C. Richards has returned
home from Mahanoy City, where he at
tended tho Cymanfa as a delegate from
