The report Is a voluminous document, covering 109 pages of closely written typewritten matter and Is .estimated to contain between 42,000 and 45,000 words. The petition of tho Citizens' Munic ipal association of Philadelphia, recit ing alleged abuses In Philadelphia, which resulted in the appointment of the committee, and the correspondence relating thereto Is given In full. At the outset the commltteo says that it deemed It unnecessary to attempt to give an analysis of the testimony taken by It. The report Is therefore confined to reference to some of the more sal ient points presented by the evidence produced before the committee. The committee deals Ilrst with the objects sought to bo accomplished by the present charter of Phlladelp'hla known as the Bullitt bill, and a discus sion thereof, ami then passes to the passage by city councils of an ordi nance granting certain franchises to tho (Mutual Automatic Telephone com pany. Facts connected with tho passage of the ordinance and the testimony relat ing to the operations of the company produced before the committee are given In detail, and the report says In connection therewith: "Both David Martin and Charles A. Porter appeared before the committee of councils nnd denied nil knowledgo or connection with tho Mutual Automatic Telephone company and denied that they lield nny stock, but admitted that they had heard that It had been put there with out their consent and without their knowledge." Mr. Charles A. Torter and Mr. John P. Pearseh were subooenaed td nppear liefore your committee, but failed to do so; Mr. Porter has never contra dicted or explained the fact that he knew or supposed he know of tho pos session of the certificate of stock by Dr. White, who was a member of coun cils from one of the wards of his sena torial district, and neither of them had denied or attempted to explain tho tes timony taken. MARTIN WAS THREATENING.
