A resolution will be offered In the

Tho direct Inheritance tax bill con
tinues on the revenue measure that has

house calendar for second ami third
readings. Two per cent, of these are
senate measures. Resides there are
twenty bills nwnltlng first reading.
The senate calendars are practically
cleared and If need be that body could
adjourn June 1. The house Is moving
plowly and the result will bo th'at late

make room for those originating In the

FIRE AT GLEN LYON.

Nantlcoko, May 2. A disastrous fire
occurred In Glen Lyon, a mining town,
five miles from Nantleoke today. It
orfglnated in Kennedy's hotel and that
struetute was entirely consumed, to
gether with a large dwelling house and
the bottling works, all the property
of P. S. Kennedy. The fire was tho
work of an Incendiary. The hose car
rying the water to the lla'tB wore cut
In three places, totally destroying their
use nnd but for the heavy downpour
of rain, the whole town would have
been destroyed.
The fire originated under the lower
stairway and the inmates narrowly
escaped with their lives. The damage
Is over $10,000, with light Insurance.
FOREST FIRE TAKES A LIFE.
Unknown Man liurned to Death with
Six Horses.
Willlamsport, May 2. The lumber
camp of Thomas Smith, on Kettle
Creek, was destroyed by forest fires
last night. In the ruins of the barn,
this morning, wns found the charred
body of a man, whose identity Is un
known. Thtee te-ims of horse3 were
also burned to death.

Scandal Shakes Up Pittsburg's Swell
Hebrew Club.
Pittsburg, May 2. A ecnmlal In tho
Concordia club, composed exclusively
of wealthy Pittsburg- Hebrows. has
been developed by a suit brought by
Albert Hanauer against Leon Klein,
son of Major Max Klein.
The defendant has been held In $300
ball for a court trial, the charge being
aggravated assault. The affair Is al
leged to have had Its beginning during
a swell wedding feast at the club
house, April II.
While a toast was being given to tho
bridal couple Leon Klein laughed. This
angered Hanauer, who, Klein says,
threw a glassful of water Into Klein's
face. Next day Hanauer nnd Klein
met In the dining room of u Pittsburg
hotel nnd there was trouble. A counter-charge
has been entered by Klein.

Harry and Chnrles Iluhl and Morris
Marks, charged with stealing Jewelry
from A. H. Yorgey's store, It ba been
learned that they were members of a
youthful band of thieves who have
been operating along Penn street for
six months past.
The article's were stolen from In
front of stores nnd sold at .trilling
sums. Seven search warrants were
sworn out yesterday and goods recov
ered from residents of the Ninth and
Klevcnth wards aggregating $200.

Sunday Game at Syracuse.

Syracuse, N. Y May 2. Rev. II. N.
Kinney, vice president of tho Clvrlsttan
shlp league of this city, appeared be
fore Mayor Magnlre Saturthg and tried
to prevent today's game with Wllkrs
Harre. He only succeeded In getting
a couple of plnyers arrested lifter the
game today In order to test the law.
Mace Mason who was coaching along
the side lines-, and Pitcher Malnrkey
were arrested after the game and taken
before a police justice, who had wit
nessed the gime at Star park and
Kid gone to the court room to wait
for them. They were released on thMr
own recognizances and the case was
adjourned until May 11 when the Stars
will have returned from their eastern
trip.
Nearly all of Wilkcs-Harrer'a runs
were made on fielding errors by the
Stars, particularly the six In the third
Inning. AVhcn the ninth was finished
the teams were tied and play was con
tinued until the twelfth Inning when
Jud Smith made a two bagger and
was brought home by a single from

and playing malinger. Is as familiar to
Scranton cranks as any player In the
league outside the homo team. He has
a host of friends here, nnd they will
probably bo out In full force to do him
honor today.

urday nnd two yesterday. Cleveland's
two victories over St. Louis shoves the
latter club down to where It belongs
next to the last while the Spiders go
upward toward their pioper company.

Umpire Hurst noticed yesterday that
some one had "traded" watch chains
with him. He thinks the trick was
worked on him in Washington. Tho

The child was christened "Rowell Abel

Tim Keefe's umpiring was as good
nn exhibition as Is likely to be seen
here this season. He miscalled not
more than three pitched balls, nnd his
base decisions were all right. Just one
thing might operate to Improve his
work, and that Is merely In giving the
number of balls and strikes when

Arthur Irwin has negotiated a deal
by which he eecutes Lush from Wash
ington, the former Eastern leaguer
who cut such a figure with the Wash-
lngtons after ho was drafted from the
Rochesters. Lush will Join the Toron
tos at once nnd will be played at cen
ter field. McIIale will be transferred 1
to third base and Wagner, who Is a
a rattling good lnflelder will replace
Moss as short stop.
The Buffalo Express says: "Many
people have been wondering who East
ern League Umpire M. J. Kennedy Is.
He Is best known as Doe Kennedy.
Doc Is an old ball player. He was
catcher of tho Cleveland's when Her
man Doescher was manager of the
team, nnd was released because of his
slowness. Kennedy has played In the
Eastern with Albany. Ho has also
played with Fall River and Corning,
his natiw city. Kennedy Is said to be
nearly as old as Pop Wise and Pop An
son. Kennedy Is best known for the
playing ho did on the Rochester team,
covering first base for many years In
a manner which delighted the fans.
Manager Powell ordered new uni
forms for the Coal Barons yesterday
through tho Kress Stationery com
pany. They will be of blue gray ma
terial, black belts and stockings, the
caps having black stripes with black
buttons. The shirts will have "W.-B."
lettered thereon and coats will be In
