A big batch of opinions was handed
down yesteiday afternoon by the judges
of the superior couit, among them one
w illicit by Judge P. 1'. Smith granting
a new tilnl to William II. House, of
Plttsbuig, who was convicted of em
bezzling funds belonging to that oily.
House was mixed up with City Solicitor
lloiehead In the municipal scandal
which shook the Smoky City fiom stein
to stewi a year ago. About $100,000 of
city funds weie stolen and Jloiolieiul
and House weie anested and chaiged
with the embezzlement.
Morehead pleaded guilty and House
was put on tilal on nn Indictment which
cluuged lilm with the theft ot about
$10,000. When the case was called for
ttlal one of the jurors was Joseph Nevln,
a imit owner ot the Plttsbuig Leader,
a paper that had lepeutedly, In Its edi
torial columns, chaiged Jloiehead and
House w llh the theft of the city's funds.
The attorneys foi House challenged Ne-

couit and dliects a new tilal. It is
the Hist time that this question has been
touched upon In Pennsylvania and It
establishes an Important precedent.

dissenting opinions. In his dissenting
opinion Judge Hice said. "In my opin
