nnd a new conference was ordered on
the San Pedro and Santa Monica ques
tion. The conference report was on

Forest City, Pa.. May 21. About one
o'clock this morning, tin- was discov
ered lu the not th end of the large tene
ment building of N. K. UarUner. situ
uted on th corner of lielaware and le
pot streets. Before the tire companies
reached the scene the tlauies hail made
such headway that it was impossible
to save the structure ari l all that c.uld
be done wus to guard adjacent build
ings. The liardner -house was vacant
nd has been for some time, with the
exception of one apartment on the
southern end which was occupied by
Kdward Tormey. Tormey succi eded In
saving part of his household effects, lie
had no insurance.

to reach the scene and soon had two
streams play Ini; on the tlames. Hill
side Kirn company quickly followed
and turned on a third stream. The fire
men fought bravely for almost three
hours nnd kept the lire cnnliued to the
structure In which it originated. The
house wns almost totally consumed nnd
the roof and one side fell In.

Citizen's bank closed yesterday. At a
meeting of the stockholders the cashier,
J. L. Kleckner. acknowledged he had
spent over J6.0MU of the bank's money
on the Chicago board of trade, as well
as J16.0W of his own money. He gave
his note with security for the amount
and will not be prosecuted.
The bank will resume operations as
soon as mutters can be straightened up.
