Sudden Death of Mrs. J. li Hewitt, of Pittston Avenue, Yesterday Morn la: from Heart Failure. '' Mrs. J. Hewitt, of 1721 Tlttston avenue, died suddenly ut 6.30 yester day morning. Tic cause of death was heart failure, and it had affected her for the pas.t three months. She arose an hour before her death and was engaged in household work, when a feeling of sickness compelled her to return to her bedroom. Dr. J. A. M.mley wns imme diately summoned, nnd. though he re sponded within a few minutes, she was bri athing her la:.t when he arrived nnd she was beyond aid. Dr. W. 15. Perilous Situation of a Southern Railway , President. .Little nock. Ark., May U. Whll Colonel S. W. Fordyce, president of the Cotton Belt road, was seated In. his pri vate car at Pine Bluff yesterday he. was approached by;a strange looking man, who demanded $1,000. The fellow held a package In his hand, and Informed the colonel that If he did not produce the money inside of live mlntes, his friends nnd the company would regret It. He said he had been working on one of the branches of the Cotton Belt, nnd that the company owed him $1,000, and that he would not leave the car until he got it. He would accept no check, and nothing would satisfy him but the cash. Colonel Fordyce engaged the man In conversation, leading him to believe that Ills claim would be paid, while one of the members of the party slipped out of the rear door of the car and sum moned a policeman. Chief Stewart ar rested the man and locked him up. The package in his' possession proved to bo a small box containing a number of cartridges, some of tho shells of which had been exploded.
