That, as we have said, means an excel

The aingle-driver locomtlve turned out
at the Baldwin Locomotive works) in
August last for fast passenger service on
the Reading has given such satisfaction
that a second engine, an exact duplicate
of the firt, has been constructed anil de
livered to the Reading company. Vice
President Voorhees. of the Reading rail
road, when aked yesterday whether the
company ptirposd adopting this, type nf
engine for Its fast passenger service, nald
that engine No. 3H5, the first or this
type to be built, had warranted th,e com
pany In ordering the second one. It was
therefore very probable that these en
gines would in time come Into general use
on the Reading In connection with its fast
Passenger service. The engines In ques
tion are what Is known as the compound
or Vauclain four-cylinder tvpe. the cy
linders being- thirteen Inches and 22211
Inches, and having piston valves. The
weight Is 113.000 pounds, of which 48,000
pounds Is carried on one pair of drivers.
It has a four-wheel truck fotward and
a pair of trailing wheels behind the driv
ers. The drivers are eighty-four and one.
fourth inches In diameter, and truck
wheels thirty-six Inches. The engine h'ls
a Wootten tlrebnx, with a water-tube
