At about 4 o'clock this afternoon a second explo sion of gas took place and a fire Is now raging In the workings. A gang of fire lighters composed of mine firemen were In the mine at the time, and as soon as the report was heard they rushed to the spot, where they found a nu tuber of men burned and Injured. lnstuntly everything was done to assist their companions who were sent to the surface us soon as the signal could be given. The men burned and Injured are: Charles Dougherty, Pi-tiiglo Hill. In jured In the ribs. Joseph Jones, Dorrnnceton, fire boss. badly burned about face and head. John Edwards, Luzerne, burned about face und head: not seriously. Philip Rundel, Forty Fort, burned about the face and head. John Robbins, Luzerne, burned on face und heud. Samuel Phillips, general Inside fore man, seriously burned ubout face, head and hands. Extra pumps are being put In place and hose stretched to the face of the fire, which is con lined mainly to the woodwork, and if it can be extinguished before reaching the coal the loss will not be heavy, but if the coal catches fire It may be months before work can be resumed.
