Starke Fla.. Jan. 27. A most re
markable tragedy occurred about 1
o'clock yesterday morning at the home
of Mr. V. t. Oever. near this place.
Mr. and Mrs. John Richards, recently
married, were spending the night with
the Uevers, nnd were occupying a front
room.
About the hour named Mrs, Richards
was awakened by some one handling
her roughly. She soon realized it wns
not her husband and began screumlng.
Iler Kcrenms awakened Mr. Rlchurds,
who grappled with the intruder, und a
desparate struggle followed. The In
truder wns armed with u knife, and
slashed at random, Inllicting numer
ous but not serious wounds on both Mr.
and Mrs. Richards and the Intruder
lolled Off the bed to the floor and the
former managed to secure his pistol,
vliii-ii was on a table near the bed.
Placing the weapon against the In
truder's body. Richard's fired live times
nnd the Intruder ceased to struggle.
A lamp wns lighted and Richards
found that lie had killed William
Wynn. one of the most prominent citi
zens of Bradford county. Wynn was
here last night and when he left he
was drinkinar. Ills home was just be
yond the lievet ' residence and his
friends say lie entered the latter's
house by mistake. Others claim Wynn
knew Mrs. Rlchurds was at Dover's
home nnd that he said he Intended to
stop and se her. A Coroner's Jury
this afternoon decided that Richard's
was Justified in killing AVynn.
GROOM IN TIIEWRONG TOWN.

Muncle, Ind., Jan. 27. J. E. Bingham,
of Cellna; Ohio, who gives his age as 87,
spent several hours in front of the Mun

Muncle. and, while he stood waiting for

for Muncle. Bingham met the girl In
Cellna, proposed and was accepted by

He Is a wealthy fish shipper and says
he had to run away from his family of
cnildren. He at once left for Marlon.
FOUND DEAD IX HER ROOM.
Vera I'reernan, Wlfo of a Theatrical
Manager.
New Tork, Jan. 27. Vera Freeman,
30 years of age, an actress, was found
dead in her room at the Hotel Pom
eroy, Broadway and Fifty-ninth street,
this morning. She died of morphine
poisoning, of which she Is believed to
have taken an overdose for the pur
pose of Inducing sleep. She was found
lying: across the bed and fully dressed.
The woman was the wife of Max
Freeman, theatrical manager. It was
said she had not lived with her husband
for three years.

HORSES FOR THE WEST.

Made into sausage.
New York. Jan. 27. A raid was made
today upon Ilcnaud's horse butchery
establishment, near Jamaica, L. I., and
six men arrested. The raid was made
in answer to the many complaints of
citizens of Jamaica and surrounding
townships. It Is said the place is a
branch of a large establishment situ-
ated In Chicago.
Tliehimie butchery establishment has
been running for almost a year. There
Is no drulnage to the place. Ffroni
thirteen to twenty horses ure slaugh
tered at this nluoe dallv. Tho, Ule
obtulned mostly at the horse market.
It was found that the meat was con
verted Into "superior beef, chipped
beef and sausages, nnd most of It Is
shipped west for disposal.

RAIL ROAD NOTES.

roads. Speaking of this greatest rail
road in the world of which he Is chief
engineer of the line from Irkutsch to
Vladivostok, he gave these particu
lars: .

Petersburg. This Is built as a great
struteglc line to bring Russia, near to

The completion of the new Delaware
river bridge, which is expected to take
pluce about March 1. will open up
great possibilities for the Pennsylvania
Railroad not only In the matter of sea
shore t'-avel, but in the various other
directions, all of which the wlde-aweke
otliclals of the company will take ad
vantage of. In anticipation of the early
opening of the bridge, the operating
and transportation ollicers of the com
pany will in a few days consider the
question of the number of trains to be
sent over the new line. The traffic de
partment has already taken up the
natter, and has been at work for some
time preparing a schedule of freight
rates to various points likely to be
reuched by the bridge route.
A well authenticated report Is In cir
culation tiiat the Atchison, Topka nnd
Santa Fe railway lias entered into a
contract with the Wagner Palace Car
company, to use Its sleeping cars on the
entire Atchlnson system, replacing the
Pullman cars which are now running.
The Pullman contract, it says, was, of
course, revoked when the company was
taken out of the hands of the receivers
and reorganized, and no new contruct
with thut company has yet been
made."

orders for both homo and foreign ac
count. London paid considerable atten
