Programmes Prepared for the Varloo
City Chnrehea.
The churches of the city are arrang
ing some very elaborate musical ser
vices lor .their Christmas celebrations.
The services at St. Stephen's will bo
held at o'clock on Christmas eve.
Singing, recitations and an address,
followed by the distribution of gifts to
the children will make up the pro
gramme. At the First Presbyterian church the
services will take place at 5 o'clock on
Christmas evo. The programme is
iilmpie,'- conpisting of singing, reading
of scripture and an unusual feature
in the way of gifts and prize for the
children.
The Memorial church Sunday school
will have their Christmas selebration on
Christmas night. It will consist of sing
ing, scripture reading, recitations and
an ndtlrcys by the pastor. The Christ
mas church m utile will be rendered on
th Sunday following Christmas and
an e!nboretH .programme of choruses,
duets, trios and solos has been ar
ranged. At the First Baptist church a cantata
will be rendered on Christmas night.
The participants are rehearsing regu
larly and a good presentation is as
sured. ,
The Sunday school of ZIon's Re
formed church have arranged a pretty
programme for presentation on Christ
mas evening. Recitations, songs,
enrols, scripture reading and gifts to
the children are the principal features.
On Christmas Day the regular ser
vices will be held at St. Clement's. On
Christmas eve the children's festival
will be It-Id, commencing at 7 o'clock.
Christmas carols, special music, etc.,

The First Methodist Episcopal church
will present a cantata on Christinas eve
at 5 o'clock. There will be gifts for the
children and the occasion will be made
as happy an possible. On Christmas
Dty tjie usual services will be held.
On Christmas Day at St. Mary's,
solemn mass at 6 a. m.; low mass at 7
and 8; children's mass at 9, aud solemn
mass at 10:30.
A Pleasant Entertainment.
A delightful entertainment was given
yesterday morning at the Union street
High school. The programme Included
recitations by Bertha Rosenthal and
Maggie Armstrong; reading. Miss Dora
James; recitation, "Lady from Over the
Rhine," and to Rn encore, "Shoes That
Were Full of Feet." Prof. McConnon
repeated his very Interesting talk on
"Relations Which We Bear to Ens
gland" Hurt In the Mines.
Yesterday morning Powell Mlsco
vitch, a Polish miner, and John Dum
bovskl, a laborer, of the same nation
ality, were badly burned by an explo
sion of gas at the Stanton colliery. They
are both at the hospital and will re
cover. John Griff had two fingers on his lef.
hand cut off yesterday afternoon at; No.
3 breaker, Grand Tunnel. His hand
was caught between a brake and a car.
Killed on the Kail.
Erastus Wltowskl,' a Polander, aged
twenty-six years, while walking on tne
mountain cut-oft near Smlthville, yes
terday morning, on nls way to Avoca,
was run down by a freight train and
Instantly killed. He was a single man
and boarded in Plttston.

with one engine and held there until
the piston is shipped.

ring and promised to buy her a house
