EN ALL THINGS AT ALL TIMES.
There are many GOOD life insurance companies, but among them all there must
be one BEST. THE BEST is THE EQUITABLE. If you wish to know why, send for:
i, the report of the Superintendent of Insurance for the State of New York on the examination
of The Equitable; 2, for actual results of maturing policies; 3, for statement of death claims
paid in 1S94. Then you will know the three great reasons of The Equitable's supremacy: 1st,
its financial stability; 2d, its great profits and advantages to living policy-holders; 3d, the prompt
ness of its payments and liberality of its settlements.

The report that the western llnea are
to .eirm a freight pool Is denied ty Vice
President Chappell, of he Alton. He
says 'that number of roads, convinced
of the unconstltulonallty of the pro
hibition of pooling, want to teat the
question, but were voted down by the
majority, act Uat Friday meeting. The
three things that were done, tie adds,
were tlhese: First, to malnt.nln rates
strictly hereafter; spcond, to direct pas
senger agents to come together and re
new It h IJ. passenger association;
third, to order a iuceting of freight
agents to restore tariffs on lumber and
coal and otherwise carry out the In
tention to re-establish and maintain the
rates In effect Aug. 1.
Tne Central Trattle association lines
have given notice to those of tho West
ern group of roads that t'hey will no
langer honor tickets sold by them at
reduced rates for large gatherings un
less they make the certificates attached
to such tickets conform strictly with
the form prescribed by the Central
Trafllc roads.
The Southern roads are ai-ttlng the
Northern lines an example In handling
their Atlanta paasenger business. All
tickets to the exposition are Ironclad,
and must be slgnd anil executed at
Atlanta before good ti return on. The
scalpers object, as they are losing
money and will not now purchase the
return part of such tickets. An In
spector titan-ds nutsldo the ticket office
In every station, and when a passenger
presents a ticket to he signed the In
spector makes a bluff that the holder
was not the original person, and tells
the ticket agent not to Indorse the
ticket. If t'he passenger was not the
original buyer he usually gets scared
and walks off with the tU'ket. and
makes the broker take It (back. When a
ticket la presented and believed to have
Leon bought from a scalper, Its num
ber Is .taken, and If It Is presented
later, the agent again refuse to stamp
It. Already many original buyers have
preser-ted their tickets and signed them,
but. It Is said, the Inspector has ordered
the agent not to Kamp them becauso
the signature on the back did not ex
actly rem pare wli h the name written on
the f.ice when It was bought.
A t'levt land despatch says the scar
