A Successful and Ifficicnt Detect! to Agcncv. The apprehension of Morello, t'4 Ital ian who more than a year ago r f inilt tod on iii.tocIous murdcT at Old Forge and made his escape, is a notable 1n titance of successful deter Live work that rodents great credit on the Barring and MoSweeney agency, whose prlnt-tpa! ofliCTH are In this city nnd Scranton. The capture of this red-handed mur derer also vindicate the wisdom of the lyiekmwanna commissioners In employ ing this agency after the ordlunry chan nels had failed. While few. If any, ex pected that Morello would ever be cap tured the cmin'ly comin!slonir. wisely decided to make every effort to bring the murderer to Justice, on l the re sult -patt-dle them. Hut 'Ihis successful work In the Morel lo case Is only one Instance of mnny that Illustrate the perseverance. Ingen uity and skill .I'hat characterizes the op erations of this agency. Another case ttt note that may be mentioned Is flint of the murderers of Barney Relck, of Wiilkes-Hnrre. After all others hnsl abandoned that case It was placed in I'he -hands of the lllarrlng nnd McSwce ney agency and In an Incredibly Thrift time the four murderers of Harney Ileick were brought face fo face with Justice, and conviction followed. Still anot'her Instance Illustrating the value of ("urU agencies t what 1s known ss tho "Elk county murders," In which the -Barring and iMoSweeney agency hunted down a gang of fiends. Includ ing bomb-throwers, and convlotcl seven of them, breaking up one of the worst organizations of criminals ever known In '(tat portion of lihe slate. Few people have anything like a cor rect ldeamf the magnitude ttt the opera tions attained by ifhe Barring and Mc Sweeney agency. Wh'Me Its principal nfflcea are -In Scranton and Wllkes P.arre, tranche aire maintained In New York and Pltlfburg, and its business extends 4nto "half of the Ktates of the Union, and the number of men directly and Indirectly, employed, if stated, would surprise the average Tribune reader, many of whom -have an t'.ea that It Is merely a local Institution. That ICie best detective skill Is em ployed Ca evidenced iby the success of Its un.de takings. The criminal classes In this section of the county have a greater ilrca-d of the Barring and McSweeney detectlvea than of all the regular representatives or Justice comblnt-d, and with good cause. The comniUiilont-rs of Lackawanna nnd Kuz.'rne counties neve" renin i oi. ter ni wiror ex en l.''urc of 'he people's money than when they eniplojtd thi effeet'lve detective ageney to -run ihnvn son-.? of the vile murderers w-'.io have been f-heddlng human bluod with Im punity. It is safe to fay that but f r the employing of the Barring and Mc Sweeney agency the murderers of Har ney Hel-ek would Ktlll be at l uge plot ting crime, and Morello would never have been -apprehended. For ifome rearon a number of Ijiizirne couiiity newi-'-papers are constantly attacking this agency and- misrepresenting the men who organized and are conducting it. Instead of unjust and unfair criti cism the preys ohoul'.l uphold and sup port this effective agency. It is needed In 'Itht-so cmrmnnlUes, and Is tt neces sary aiuxlllary to the administration of jii.-i!lee niiil the puuLshiuent and up piesslon of crime. In the rapid running of cars, nnd one man, Oi-orge Hall, of 1 Ttt Madison strec:, an old railroader, said he was willing to make ntlldavlt that the ear was running thirty miles an hour nt the time the collision occurred. The car men denied that t'iiey were running too fast, and charged that Menslnger was responsible fonthe occurence. Harry Floyd, who assists Menslnger. said t'l.at they were coming out Jack son street at a uuiet canter, and did not 'hear the car approaching.
