A very singular and amusing Inci

at St. John's church last Sunday, the
ordinary names of Katherlne and El

one from the other John tied about
the great toe of Kate a piece of string.
iMrs. Brennan not being able to attend
to her family duties, gave the llstle
charges Into the hands of a young girl,
who, not knowing the reason why the
child wan thus marked, loosed tho
string and disposed of It. The Bren

Supposed They Knew.
A story at the erpense of the Appa

lated in Happy Thought. An excursion
party from the club. It appears, had
gone to a rural part of the state, and In
default of sufficient hotel accommoda
tion some of the members were obliged
to seek quarters In a farmhouse.
Simplicity was the order of the day.
Everything was scrupulously clean, but
there was a natural absence of some of
the luxuries of high-priced city hotels.
Some of the ladies of the party discov
ered that there weire no keys In the
locks of their rooms and waited upon
the farmer's wife.
That good woman was surprised,
"Why," she said, "we don't usually
lock our doors here and there's no one
here but you. But then I suppose you
know your own party best."
The visitors did not Insist upon the
keys.
