INDUSTRIAL TOPICS.
The Pennsylvania Steel company
has been awarded the contract for the
construction of seven steel bridges on
the first division of the new line of the
Pittsburg and Eastern railroad. These
bridges will Involve 1,600,000 pounds of
manufactured steel.
Simon Borg will probably retire from
the New York, Susquehanna and West
ern presidency about July 1.
. The Manufacturers' Record states
that the advance of over $1 a ton In
pig Iron during the last few weeks will
likely be followed by another advance
as soon as southern furnaces are pre
pared to take new orders, most of the
large furnaces already having orders
for some months ahead.
Superintendent Charles Pctlgrew, of
the Illinois Steel company, announces
that the company will erect a large con
struction mill In -this city on a 20-aore
tract of land owned by the company
juat south of the present works. The
mill will cost about 11,000,000, and will
employ over 100 men.

ARCHIBALD,
It Is a pleasure to note that the
"month of roses" always brings Its
complement of marriages to Archbald.
We had three here this week and there
are more to follow within the next few
weeks. On Tuesday afternoon Miss
Katharine McQlynn, of Railroad street,
was married to Thomas Gallagher, of
Rock Terrace; on Wednesday Miss Ag
nes Caffrey, of Hill street, was mar
ried to Matthew Fltzslmmons, of May
field, and Miss Mary A. Magee was
wedded to Thomas Kinney.
The Gallngher-AlcGlynn marriaga
was performed In St. Thomas' church
at 4 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon by
Rev, G. J. Lucas, D. D. The ceremony
was witnessed by many friends of the
young couple. The bride was attended
by Miss katle Loftus, and the groom
by his cousin, William Gallagher, of
Scranton. The bride and maid were
beautifully dressed and the party pre
sented an attractive appearance. Aftor
the ceremony a reception was held at
the home of the bride, where many of
their friends assembled to congratulate
them and spent several pleasant hours.
At 1 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon
Miss Mary Magee was married to
Thomas Kinney. This ceremony was
also performed In St. Thomas' church
by Rev. Dr. Lucas. The bride was at
tended by Miss Nellie Moyles and John
Mahady was groomsman. The bride
looked charming. In a dress of pea green
silk with lace trimming and hat to
match. The bridesmaid- wore Nile
green Bilk with lace trimming. Tho re
ception, which was held at tho home of
ths bride, was attended by a, large

number of young people who heartily
enjoyed the festivities.
The marriage of MIsb Agnes CafTrey
to Matthew Pltzslmmons, of Mayfleld,
was solemnised at 4 o'clock on Wed
nesday In the presence of many friends
of the contracting couple. Rev. Dr.
Lucas performed the ceremony. The
bride was attended by her cousin, Miss
Mary Loftus, of Serantnn, and John V.
Lally, of Mayfleld, accompanied the
groom, The bride wore cream silk Wltn
pear trimming and orange blossoms.
The bridesmaid's dress was also of
cream silk trimmed with silk lace and
ribbon. At the conclusion of the cere
mony the bridal party enjoyed a short
drive, and on their return a brilliant re
ception was held at the home of the
bride, bn Hill street. The house and
lawn were very beautifully decorated
ami the guests were entertained with a
bounteous supper and enlivening music
by Llndc's orchestra. The Mayfleld
band, of which Mr. Lally Is a member,
wns also presont. Mr. and Mrs. Fltz
slnimnns will live In Mayfleld.
The foundation of the new parson
age for Father Comerford will be com
pleted 'this week and It Is expected that
the caipenters will begin work next
week.
A special meeting of the school board
was held Thursday evening. The mem
bers present were President Myers and
Messrs O'Rourke, Toolan, O'Horo and
Barrett. Tax Collector Phllbln pre
sented a statement of his account with
the district and his exoneration list
presented at the last meeting was ap
proved. The bond of Treasurer
O'Rourke In $iS,000, with Justus Bishop,
James O'Rourke and Michael Loftus as
sureties, was approved. The fixing .of
a tax rate was then considered and on
motion of Mr. Toolan 13 mills were des
ignated for educational and 6 for build
ing purposes for the year 1895.
At the last meeting of the board of
trade Hon. A. V. McNulty, Thomas
Law and Professor R. N. Davis was
appointed a committee to prepare res
olutions expressive of the ttmnks
of the board to Mrs. C 13. Hack-
Icy, for her generous act In establish'
Ing and maintaining a kindergarten
here. Following are the resolutions:
