as a result all the eastern clubs won,
excepting New York and Washington.
Cincinnati lost to Philadelphia, permit
ting Pittsburg, which won from Wash
ington, to Increase Its lead and sending
the rainmakers up from sixth to fifth J
position. New York dropped from fifth
to eighth position by losing to Cleve
land, and ISultlmnre comes from eighth
to sixth by winning; from Louisville. .

First Baseman Clark, of the Scranton
club, was arrested at 11 o'clock last nltrht
and locked in the central police station,
where charges of Intoxication, larceny and
resisting arrest were preferred ngalnst
him. Ho was alone at tho time of his ar
rest. Clnrk was seen to tnko a pineapple
from ft Penn avenuo market stand nnd
enter Center street, where Patrolman Day
found him standing In a doorway with the
pineapple In bis possession. He was placed
under arrest, but broke awny from the of
ficer and ran nearly to Wyoming avenue
before being overtnken. Patrolman
Neuls enme to Day's assistance and with
an officer on each side of him nnd a crowd
at his heels the base ball player was taken
to tne police station.

meeting, be presided over by the new
quota of officers of which T. Fellows
Mason Is the president. Action on the
recent favorable decision of the Trac
tion company, relative to the Robinson
street pave will be taken. Several
members have expressed themselves as
being confident that the work will be
pushed toward success.

Two entertainments were held last
; evening. One was by the infant class
or Plymouth church, the other by the
Christian Endeavor society of the
Welsh Calvlnlstlc Methodist church.

Police Olllcer Lowry. who sustained
a broken finger while making an arrest
In the early part of the month, has re
sumed duty on his regular beat. Of
ficers Lowry has, during his Indisposi
tion, been doing police duty at the city
hall.
