able In this city today. Tho demonstra
tion was under the auspices of the
Ancient Order of Hibernians, Hoard of
Krln, of the county, which Invited the
members of the Ancient Order of Hi
bernians, Hoard of Amerlcu, to join
with them in celebratlnit tho annivers
ary of Ireland's patron suint.

welcome und entertain the thousuuds
ot visitors who spent the day in tin?
city. Then' was general. If not elabor
ate, decorations on the hullilliiKX along
the line of march, but the people of the
city did Hot simply content themselves
with bedecking their homes with the
Stars und Stripes and beautiful green
and gold emblem of Ireland; they took
u warm Interest In their patriotic visi
tors and tried to make their visit to the
city pleasant and agreeable.
1'he visiting organizations begun to

hour the regular train consisting of six
cats arrived on the Ontario and West
ern railroad from Scranton, each of
which was crowded. Following this at

ied by either a band or drum corps. It

sion (o pass the reviewing stand, and It.
was estimated that there were 3,000
men hi Hue.
At 1:110 p. in. the parade was over and
an hour later the marchers began to
leave the city. The day throughout
was observed In a most quiet und or
derly manner, and the only labor the
black helmeted policemen of Carbon
dale' had to perform was in keeping
the ubiiiuitlotis "shell game" man on
the move, it was late at night before
tho lust of the visitors left, when the
city resinned Its usual quiet and placid

In a convivial manner und the main
points In the history of the lodge were
Impressed upon the nssembly.
The lodge wus organized eight years
ago with fourteen members, and has
now n membership of 140, und ut the
death of each a sum of 12,000 will be
paid as a death benefit. The lodge wns
reported to be In a sound financial con
dition, and the lodge room was reported
to have been furnished In the most
modern manner. Refreshments were
served during the evening.

Officers of the law yesterday swooped
down upon the pool room conducted for
the past two years nt 1107 and 30!i Center
street under the mime of the Kleetrle
Newa and Money Transfer company,
and three Individuals connected with It
Were arrested, and all of the black
boards, charts, papers, etc., found In
the place were conliscuted, and, except
the telegraph instrument, are securely
locked in the olllce of District Attorney
John R. Jones, In the court house. The
ticker was turned over to the manager
of the Western Union Telegraph com
pany. The raid was made yesterday after
noon at 4 o'clock by County Detective
Thomas Leyshon on Information to be
fore Alderman Wright. He was assist
ed by State Detectives Anthony Scan
Ion, Jr., of this city, and Holland, of
Beech Haven. Two warrants, a search
warrant, and one for running a gam
bling house, were procured, and Mr.
Leyshon, accompanied by Detectives
Scanlon and Holland, visited the place.
It watl at an hour when the pool room
was In lull blast. But the gamblers
suspected that trouble was In store for
them, and It Is said that a "spotter"
was kept on the lookout. The three
ollleers took different paths so as not to
urouse suspicion and they met together
at the entrance almost unaware to the
denizens Inside. But the frequenters
Just got the right tip in time?.
They Took Leg Hail.
County Detective Leyshon was the
first to enter and the panorama spread
before his gaze was well calculated to
make him smile. Kvery available ave
nue of escape was a picture frame for
u disappearing coat tail. The, ap
proach of the ollleers was the signal for
a Htumpede and before any of the men
playing the races could be ruptured
every one of them had hied himself out
of sight.
But the Individuals connected with
the rooms stood their ground and were
taken In tow by the ollleers. They are
Joseph Gleason, of New York, man
ager: Kdward Gleaaon, his nephew; M.
S. Jordan and Charles It. Drohr, who
presided at the telegraph Instrument.
They were brought before Alderman
Wright and they waived a hearing,
each furnishing bail In the sum of $.".uo.
Dr. William Haggerty qualllied as their
bondsm:-.n. Attorneys O'Brien and
ICelley were engaged to represent the
pool room men, and a legal battle will
be "fought to determine whether or not
this concern cun legally carry on busi
ness. W hat They Claim.
They allege that the company Is
chartered under the laws of tho state
of New Jersey, artl that they arc en
gaged in legitimate business. The
