John Jones, of North Main avenue,

severe blow on the left side of his head
by a pupil In Miss Bechtold's de
partment yesterday morning. Short
ly before noon Mr. Jones was called
Into the latter's room to quiet boys
who were making a disturbance, but
punished no one. A teacher then told
him that Robert Hipwell had been
noisy and should receive a reprimand.
Mr. Jones went forward for that pur
pose, but as he neared Hipwell, the
latter, who is more powerful than the
principal, came forward and dealt him
a blow on the side of the heud with
his fist, making- an abrasion of the skin
and producing- a deep swelling.
Mr. Jones, though purtially stunned,
quickly recovered and threw Hipwell
down. At this Juncture several of the
pupils and two lady teachers came
forward and separated them. There
was no further disturbance and the
boy was allowed to go home unpun
ished. Mr. Jones is at present unable
to state whether or not he will prose
cute. Hipwell is much larger than the
rest of the boys and is troublesome to
the lady teachers.

Kob Druggist Chittenden of $50 and
Notes Amounting to l.OOO.
Two crooks entered C. E. Chitten
den's drug store, on upper Lackawanna
avenue, soon utter noon yesterday and
succeeded in carrying away the cash
box with $50 in cash and notes given for
value received to the amount of $1,000.
At the time Mr. Chittenden was
speaking to ex-Lletiteuunt Governor
Watres on the sidewalk In front of his
store, und two well-dressed men en
tered his place of business uud wore at
tended to by his clerk. One of the vis
itors went to the rear end of the store
and conversed with the clerk with re
gard to u prescription, giving him
minute Instructions usto the manner
In which he required It to be com
pounded. In the meantime the second
crook went to the open safe, which
stands by the front door, forced open
a private drawer, picked up the cash
and bills and placed them In his pocket.
He was Joined by his comrade, and
both left the store in un unceremonious
ma uner.
Some time after Mr. Chittenden went
to the safe and saw that a robbery had
been committed. He does -not antici
pate any loss on the notes, as they are
signed by persons who constantly tran
sact business with him, and who will
doubtless renew the documents upon
his giving them security against lia
bility on the stolen bills.
The following description Is given of
the man who spoke to the clerk and was
evidently an accomplice In the theft:
Dark complexioned, medium height,
black moustache, neatly dressed in blue
black overcoat und appearance of Span
ish or Jewish extraction, but no accent
noticeable In his speech.

Reports from all parts of the county
of the election held on Tuesday were
filed yesterday with Prothonotary
Pryor and Clerk of tho Courts Thomas.
They did not change In any particular
the results disclosed In the complete
returns printed In yeBterday's Tribune.
Alderman-elect W. B. Millar was the
recipient of many warm congratula
tions on his hard fought, brilliant vic
tory In the Eighth ward. His opponent
takes his defeat very philosophically.
Attorney Eugene Davis had many sym
pathizers for his defeat in the Sixteenth
ward. Councilman-elect Lorenz JCeld
ler Is u bright young man and will un
questionably make u good representa
tive for the wurd.
The bitter tight In the Third ward
caused much bud blood among the
Democrats -there. Thomas llobau, one
of the defeated candidates, says he will
call the attention of the court to the
manner In which the election was con
ducted. From the First ward also come
ugly stories of the wuy that votes were
Secured by certuln candidates.
Complaint from the Seventh.
Wllllum H. Smallrldge. the Republi
can candidate for common council In
the Seventh ward, says he did not re
ceive credit for the number of votes cast
for him and proposes to ascertain the
reason why. Mr. Hniallrldge was not
on the official ballot and stickers had
to be used. The election officers say
the stickers were not properly placed
und therefore the votes could not be
counted.
In the First district Gllroy, who was
also a candidate for council, received
00 votes, and Smallrldge was credited
with 4-'. Twelve votes for the latter
were thrown out on account of Im
proper use of stickers. In the Second
district Smallrldge received 43 votes
and Oilroy 22. One Intended for Small
rldge was also thrown out in that dis
trict. Smallrldge was credited with
only thirteen votes in the Third dis
trict, while Gllroy received 181). Mr.
Smallrldge said last night:
"Why the votes oast for me In the
Third district were not counted I do
not know, but without making any ef
fort to discover the exact number of
persons who cast their ballots for me
In that district I have found fifty-four
who did so. While all those ballots
may not have been perfectly marked
they clearly showed the Intention of
the voter and should have been counted
for me, I believe. I will consult an at
torney about the matter in the morn
ing." In Lackawanna Township.
Down In the South district of Lacka
wanna township they had an exceed
ingly lively time Tuesday, several fights
serving to enliven the day.
Yesterday Peter Higgins, who was
defeated for the office of assessor, went
before Justice of the Peace O'Hara and
swore out warrants for the arrest of the
members of the election board of the
district, charging Irregularities. The
warrants were placed In the hands of
Constable Michael Thornton, but had
not all been served last night.
The official count of the votes will
be made today.
