Side of the City Noted.

t Was Enjoyed by Those Who Attended
the Entertainment of Dickson Club.

at Home of Miss Kichurds.
The entertainment and social given
In Hears' hall last night by the mem
bers of the Dickson Banjo, Mandolin
and Guitar club attracted a large at
tendance. The room was profusely
decorated. Over the center of the stage
In brilliant ornamental letters was the
word "Dickson," and suspended from
each side were two large American
flags. From the center of the room
were draped streamers of blue, and
along the walls many smaller Wags
were arranged In unique designs.
The llrst number of the excellent pro
gramme was the "Heroic March," by
the members of the Dickson club.
Llew Herbert rendered a selection en
titled "I Fear No Foe," In hi usual
good style, and the overture, "En
chantment," was skilfully executed by
Arthur E. Morse, accompanied by Wal
ter Davies on the piano. The soprano
solo, "When the Heart Is Young," by
iSIlss Julia Allen, was warmly applaud
ed. Master Stanley Swartz and Miss
Bessie Fraunfelter played a duett on
the banjo and guitar In an excellent
manner, and were compelled to respond
to an enthusiastic encore. The con
tralto solo of Mrs. Dora Metzgur was
well received. Robert Frledrlch gave
a zither solo, accompanied on guitars
by Messrs. Watklna and. Mayo. Eos
Cynon rendered a tenor solo entitled
'Children's Home." and the Dickson
club followed with "Love and Beauty
Waltz." "Flow Gently Deva" was ren
dered by Eos Cynon and Llew Herbert.
This was the closing feature of the
evening. Miss Annie Williams, of
Tenth street, was accompanist.
- After the entertainment dancing was
indulged In to music by Miss Nellie
Curran on the piano. The prompter
was William Lake. The affair was suc
cessful throughout. The club members
are: ESanjaurine, Professor William W.
"Watkins; banjos, F. H. Canfleld and
Charles Sproal: mandolin, F. R. Shorts;
guitars. D. Forest Mayo and F. E.
Sheninger.
An Exciting Runaway.
A - horse attached to a light cutter
dashed up Main avenue yesterday at a
rapid rate of speed. When danger was
the most Imminent, Motorman Alex.
McTagzart and Conductor Richard
Phillips, who were running the Eynon
street car up the avenue, Jumped from
the car and captured the horse Just in
time to prevent a smashup. The ani
mal and cutter were placed In front of
Mason's store to await the appearance
of the owner. The latter came up a
few minutes later and explained that
the horse ran away from him while
driving near Hampton street. The cut
ter was a total wreck.
Social Was Held,
The home of Thomas Richards, pro
prietor of the Lafayette house, on
North Main avenue, was the scene of
a social gathering on Tuesday evening
in honor of his daughter. Miss Mar
garet Richards. A very large number
of guests were present and many hours
of enjoyment were had In games-and
dancing. In addition to this songs
were sung and Instrumental selections
rendered. Mr. Richards proved to be
a genial host and thi company were
given free use of his home. Refresh
ments were served at a late hour. The
guests Included many from the East
Side.

is Improving after a serious Illness.

consisting of Mrs. Rundolph Jones, so

olic Mutual Benefit association enjoyed

where they were the guests of Pittston
branch, who held a reception.
The funeral of Mrs. Frank Henry, of
Cherry street, was held at the Metho
dist Episcopal church yesterday after
noon at 2 o'clock, and was conducted by
Rev. J. C. Leacock. The pall-bearers

age for the pastor's home. The execu
tive committee hits decided that the
structure will be of granite and the
style of architecture mudcto harmonize
with the church. Of course, the In
terior will be of the most modern aiul
comfortable design. At .this evening's
meeting the contract will be let for the
demolition of :the old building now
standing on the site where 'the parson
uge will be erected. Another mutter
that will In all probability be decided

tended to push the work of construction

Eleven Years Happily MurrlcJ.
Among the Intimate friends of Pro
fessor and Mrs. Thomas J. Coyne, of
lireck street, the fact leaked out thut
yesterday was the eleventh anniver
sary of their marriage, und last nlglit
their home was visited unexpectedly,
but Mr. and Mrs. Coyne were not taken
by surprise, although they had not
expected any callers. Congrntulutlons
were passed and many wishes of long
life and happiness extended to the
happy couple. A very pleasant purlor
social was enjoyed until midnight,

ress for the presentation of an excel
lent programme of an entertainment,
which will be held on Washington's
Birthday at Dr. J. A. Mauley's Jiall,
under the auspices of Columbus coun
cil, Young Men's Institute. The best
musical talent of the c ity will partici
pate and the numbers will be dlversilled
by choice literary selections. The execu
tive committee has not, as yet, decided
whether or not an address by some
eloquent speaker will be a part of the
programme.

Miss Blanche Lavan returned yes
terday to her home In Pittston, after
a visit with Mrs. E. P. Rutledge, of
Cedar avenue.
A meeting of the Epworth league, of
the Cedar Avenue Methodist Episcopal
church, will be held this evening at the
home of Miss Mame Goddard. A recep
tion will follow the meeting.
Lucy, the 7-month-old daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. James J. Keating, of
Stone avenue, died yesterday morning
at 10 o'clock. The funeral will take
place tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock.
Interment will be made in Minooka
Catholic cemetery.
Yesterday morning at 10 o'clock the
marriage ceremony of Henry Young, of
Petersburg, and Miss Bertha Raeder,
of Fig street, was performed in the
presence of only a few friends of the
family by Rev. Edward Sehmltt, of the
Hickory Street German Baptist church.
A wedding breakfast was privately en
Joyed and the bridal party left on their
wedding tour at noon.
