Neal Vanderworker, of Laceyvllle,
languishes In Jail for stealing a pair of
shoes from a cqmrade named Dunlap.
The 'two men came here yesterday and
wont on a spree. When Dunlap missed
his package containing the shoes he
swore out & warrant for Vanderworker,
charging him with having stolen them.
The latter acknowledged the corn, and
Esquire Eastman sent him up to the
bastlle.
A lot of loose mill machinery belong
ing to E. II. Elston, at Stull, will be
sold under the sheriff's hammer at 11
m., Thursday, at the Instance of B.
M. Stone. The real estate will also be
sold later. '
Efforts are being made to resuscitate
the eleotric railroad and electric light
schemes here again. The railroad pro
ject contemplates a Hne between here
and Factoryvllle, -with branches to
reach out and 'toudh Lakes Carey end
Winola. It is claimed that sufficient
power to generate the electricity could
e obtained by damming Tunkhannock
creek or tapping the flow pond at Lake
Carey. If suoh a plan Is feasible, the
road could be operated very cheaply
and doubtless would be a paying Insti
tution. As an aid to such projects, how
ever, the next legislature should so
amend the laws that a charter could be
granted to electric lines allowing them
to carry freight where they do not run
parallel with steam roads.
"It seems 'too bad," remarked one of
our business men today, "that the cen
sus reports should give our town only
1,000, when at the lowest estimate there
are 2,800 people living within a radius
of three-quarters of a mile from the
court house." It Is rather bellttleing,
for a fact.
A large derrick was transferred to
day from Hawke & Shield's quarry to
N. A. McKown's quarry on the Leigh-
ton farm. This Indicates that aotlve
operations will be carried on at the
latter place as long as the weather will
permit.
Mrs. Hiram Cortrlght is reported bet
ter, but is still obliged to remain at the
home of her brother-in-law, Aaron Bar-
tron.
The eighteenth annual session of the
Mutual Musical alliance will be held In
Edwards' opera house at Laceyvllle
commencing Wednesday morning, Dec.
:6, and closing Saturday evening fol
lowing with a grand concert. Profes
sor B. C. Unseld, of Cincinnati, will
conduct It, and Miss Olemantlne Shel
don has been engaged as soloist, while
Miss Florence Richmond, of Scranton,
will preside at the piano. The fact
that these people have been secured
augurs well for Che success of the con
vention. Frank Thompson, an old war veteran
residing on Harrison street, Is very seri
ously ill.
Mrs. Chllds and daughter, Lillian,
have gone to Middletown, N. T., for a
visit.

a meeting of Temple chapter, No. 172,

A case that calls for deepest sym
pathy Is that of 'the family of John
Wilsoy, who recently arrived here from
Texas. The daughter, Mrs. Wlthrow,
lies dead in the house, while the father
was at the Moses Taylor hospital,
Scranton, expecting to be operated on
for cancer when he was called home by
the death of the daughter. The mother
Is also In exceedingly poor health, and,
taken altogether, their lot Heems piti
able. Mrs. Withrow will probably be
burled 'today,

house with rheumatism again.
Professor George Young's orchestra
will give a concert at Kingston shortly.

The public park project promises to
succeed. It will be owned by a stock
company.

agreement are as follows: Ten yards
distance; two-inch pins; soft sticking
clay ends, not to exceed two feet In
dHmeter; pins to be in center of clay
five pound quoits, two ounces allowed
under or over; eight and one-quarter
across, one Inch 'high, five Inches In the
hole, one-quarter Inch or over; clay to
be six Inches deep; pin not to exceed
one-quarter of an Inch across the top
game to be sixty-one points up, the
first half to be played at the house of
John Ricoby, Mudtown, New Year's
Day, and the second half to be played
at Thomas Logan's, Prlceburg, Jan. 5
