cial rooms last evening liy giving a
smoker. About I'M young men were
present. There are two rooms, and
these are tinely furnished. In a cornel'
of the imrloi Is a pluuo, and this was
decorated Willi chrysanthemums and
pulms.
The evening was devoted to garni t',
music and speevh making. The lvorltes
quartette, consisting of David Owen,
Will Keynolds, Emerson Owen and Wal
ter Jones, rendered several plantation
melodies. Emerson Owen recited his
latest production, entitled "The Mur
derer." The piece- Is u soliloquy of the
murderer In his cell, and It wus ren
dered in a realistic manner. Solos were
rendered by Professor William Kvans,
Morris Thomas and Philip Warren.
The members also sang, uccompanled
by Llewellyn Jones on the pluuo. ,
Speeches on the lodge, Its work und
the nuture of the meeting were given by
Councilman li. K. Kobathun, City En
gineer Jiseph Phillips, W. (laylo:d
Thomas, John J. lJavies. John M. Har
ris, Willium It. Lewis and John It.

ful one, und the rooms are now opened

school will be commenced by Contrac

The building will be located on Uebecca
avenue, near Jucksoti street. Twelve
rooms are to accomodate the pupils of
the several grades. '

quired. Six teachers will be taken from
the old building and two from the Uur
lleld avenue mission, which Is now used
us an overllow. The building will be
completed as soon um possible.

Milllam 1'owcll Head.
William Powell, u respected resident
of this side, died at 10.3" o'clock
Wednesday evening after u two weeks
Illness of typhoid fever. Mr. Powell
wan born In Wales and was 2 years
of uge. He was employed in the Hyde
I'ark mines and i survived by a widow
and one child. William.
He was a member of" the Independent
Order of P.ed Men and the Knights of
the Golden Kugle, of Wllllumsport;
Court Lackawanna, Ancient Order of
Foresters, of this city. The funeral
will tuke place Suiuluy afternoon at 2.30

Another death thut has removed n

curred yesterday morning at 7 o'clock,

pussed uway from this life. Mr. Mor
gun hud been sick only since last Sat
urday, of typhoid-pneumonia. His
death Is a sudden shock to a large num
ber of people, who had learned to re
spect the deceased us an upright and
progressive citizen.
He was singled out by his fellow citi
zens several times for loeul political'
preferment. He was Justice of the
peace of Lackawuiina towniihlp for five
eurs, and served two terms us school
director. His widow and seven chil
drenMrs. John Medlur, of Taylor, Al
bert K., John, Rachel, Jessie, Alice and
Willie, survive him. The funeral will
be held Sunday afternoon ut 2 o'clock.
Interment will be mude In the Forest
Home cemetery, ut Taylor.
