THE SCI? ANTON TRIBUNE-WEDNESDAY MORNING, SEPTEMBER- 19, 18943 GETTING THE BABY TO SLEEP The Cradle Out of Date, but Cradle Songs Remain Better Infant Food Brings Sounder Sleep, With Little Need of Rocking. In the old New England Cabin at the Midway Plaisauce, among the quaint bits of furniture there was an old-fashioned cradle such as busy mothers used to push with their feet while they hummed a soft lullaby. The cradle is out of date and the tiny, lace-draped crib has taken Its place. Cradle song remain. No bet ter orva have been written ainee mothers hushed their tired ones to uleep with 'Kock-a-bye, Baby," and 'Jiye, Buby Bunting," but the art of infant feeding has gone fur ahead of the old ways. Mothers no longer give sirups to still babies' cries; little or no medicine is now given, but better food. Lactated food is now known to every mother. In the great majority of homes in this country and in Canada this best of in fant! foods has found a permanent place. Next to healthy mother's milk It Is the most perfect diet for infants. Very often it is much superior to the natural breast milk,. because It never becomes derlcentlu nutritive qualities. MARY C. REYNOLDS, It cannot contain any source of conta gion. It is perfectly prepared to be pleasing to the weak infant stomach. It quickly makes solid flesh and bone, and tides sickly babies over summer days and nights when cholera infan 'urn and diarrhea threaten the lives of e 'ery poorly nourished child. The great reproach to practical medicine lies been the fearful loss of Infant lives of every return of the hot weather. The attention of the whole world has been directed to this great subject of proper infant feeding, espec ially during hot weather. Under the advice of the professors in the medical department of the Ver mont university, more especially of Prof. A. P. Orinnell, dean of the uni versity, and Dr. S. M. Itoberts, profes sor of diseases of children, and under the investigation and direct supervi sion of Prof. C. 8. Boynton, the manu facture of lactated food was begun. It Las saved thousands of baby lives and enabled thousands more to grow up strong and big and blessed with stur- A host of mothers have to thank lac ted food for the toy of seeing their jplng, silent, -wnite faced little ones & bright-eyea, charming babies, "Ilcrnr nnv nmMior'a hunrt tircat bers of mothers have written that nothing else would agree with their children but lactated food. A trial of less than two weeks will tell Its story in baby's weight, eyes, cheeks and spirits. Nursing mothers tind lactated food just adapted to their Deculiar needs. It nourishes both mother and child. And this is what one would expected from a knowledge if its rich, blood-making ingredients; using pure milk sugar as a basis, be cause it is also the basis of mother's milk; there Is added the richest gluten Hour of wheat and oats. These are subjected to high steam heat under pressure, and while in contant motion and perfectly cooked, the extract of me nnest malt barley is added, mak ing thus a partially digested food that is easily assimilated by the feeblest stomach. Invalids and aged persons find lac tated food the most grateful to their weak stomachs of any nutriment they can take. Here is the experience of the sweet baby girl whose portrait is given above. Her mother, i Mrs. E. E. Itey nolds, of Fair Haven. Vt.. writes: "Our little girl Is a perfect picture of neaun, Having used lactated rood since she was two months old. She has al ways been perfectly well and we ininKit is largely due to the food." BASE BALL. At Cleveland First game- Cleveland 1 0114002 x 9 Brooklyn. 0 000800008 Bits Cleveland, 13; Brooklyn, 0.
