All of the ksuus won by Soranton

with comparative ease. If the club whs

force that would have dismayed auy

are now the olKbtmeres that baunt tbe

make them pale and nerveless.
Ilodson and Flanagbaa have contin

Alexander Donoghue, of Lanoaster,
gavo unmistakable evidence at the ball
p'lik Saturday that be is either pos
nested of a concaved judgment or has a
Ferris wheel in his head.
lie most decidedly made a sad spec
tacle of biuself.
It was in tbe first inning. Scbeible,
Lancaster's south p:iv, was in the box,
nud bis curves were being made mince
meat of by the local batsmen. Wetzel
drove a long fly into right which Don
oghue captured, and Hogan followed
with a rnp for three bates and scored
on a wild pitch. Patchen sent the
sphere bisslng through tbe atmos
phere for one base and went to second
on fccUeibls's error, Wsssey followed
with another base bit on which
Putcbeu scored.
Phelan next took his position at the
plate. II bunted a foul and before
Ilsssey had time to return to first and
touch it, as required bv the rules.
Scbeibel again delivered the ball,
whereupon ifassev turned about and
went to second. Umpire Dave Coroo-
ran decided that Massey was entitled to
go to second as scowl be 1 bad been too
Hasty in delivering the ball.
ALEX UEFUSED TO PLAY.
Then Alexander the Great, of Lan
caster, came in from the field with
folded anus and kicksd in the pictur
esque style be is noted (or. lie o
clare.l that the batter was in the box,
which was notice for the picber to de
liver tbe ball. Mr. Donoughe further
declared that if Massey was net re
turned to first tbe game would not pro
cecd.
Therefore, Corcoran quoted tbe rules
to him without avail, and nnaliy.becom
iug disgusted at Donogbue'i obstinacy,
gave him one minute to get out in tbe
field and resume play, declaring that if
be did not do so he would give the
gnm? to beranton. Then the Scranton
and Lancaster players besought Don
oghue to proceed with tbe game and
not disappoint the 1,500 spectators.
It was all in vain.
Alexander would not be swayed and
the giune was given to Scranton.
Then the spectators began to demand
their money and some even threatened
violence if it wai not refandad. About
forty were has tied outside tbe grounds
and given tickets for future games and
the others remained and witnessed the
furuf, which after twenty minntes
wrangling was (arranged with tbe
manager of the L'incastor club. It was
annooucel br Urn Dire Corcoran as a
"postpoued" game, but as there has
been no postponed game this season it
will probably go dowu in history as an
txniMiion game.
WO.t WITH GREAT BASE.
Scranton had no difficulty in winning
it. Yerkes pitched and held tbe visitors
down to six bits. Scbeibel injured bis
arm in t:ie lourtn inning and Short

Pitcher Brown, of the Baltirnores. has
been relessed to the Lynchburg club, ot
tne Virginia state league, tor the remain
der of the present year. Manager Hualon
considers that in Brown there is tbe male
lug of a good pitcher, but thinks a little
experience wit u a minor leagus club will
do him much good.
The statement that appears in a Pitts
burg paper that Ilodson has Injured his
usuiuinesg as a pitcher Dy going into the
box every day is most nonsensical. To
keep his pitching arm in the best condition
ilodson tinrta it necesaary to pitch every
other day, A rest of a fow days always
mages unn a trine wild when ne again goes
into me cox.
After Corcoran gave the game to Bcran
ton Saturday many of the spectators
on tbe ball Held and surrouuding the offi

their money be refunded in no very gentle
terms. When the clubs were ready to re

son and Lieutenaut Spellman aud Officer
John Thomas promptly dispersed the
crowa.
Allentown made a brilliant fight for first
place, Dut could not staou tbe strain and
succumbed to Iisading Saturday. Both
clubs bad Scranton pitchers lu the box.
Southard did the twirliuif for Rusdiua and
Muldurig tor Allentown. The formur wai
rouiitl for seven hits and tho latter for
thirteen. In the eighth inning Mulderig
hit Miller with a pitched ball and Millar
threw the bat at him. Muldorig weut to
