President John Divine, of Scranton,
made an address in which he defined
the ditlerence between tho man who
drank aud the abstainer.
Editor Judge, of tho Index, was
present and was called upon for an ad
dress. Mr. Judge said that be . had no
plans to oiler and therefore asked to
be excused. Treusuror Thomas Callory,
of Pittston, was called upon for an ad
dress but declined. The committee on
credentials reported the following dele

Barro, addressed the convention tit
length.
Vice President Walsh, upon a motion
mado by Thomas Gailuey and seconded
by James Kern, appointed the follow
ing committee to secure speakers for
a course of lectures to bo given the
coming winter throughout the diocese:

Million, Fraud McCarthy and Thomus
Gaffuev.
Mr. Deviue, of Scranton, offered a
njgeation that the next national con
vention be held at Scranton. Tho .sug
gestion was the signal for an outburst
of opposition on the pur: of the
Wilkes-B irre delegates headed by
Thomas' Oaffney. Mr. Gailuey i mi
ni iitod that Scranton was not, tho wuolo
diocese as some might he led to sup-
poe. On the contrary there were
Wilkes-Uarro, Pittston and several
other towns, Llis opposition carried
with it little weight and after n heated
discussion a motion mado by Mr.Laviu,
of Vilke-Barw, and seconded by
Thomas Callary, prevailed, that the
Third district iustruct the delegates at
large to do all their power to have the
next convention held at Scranton.
The following officers were elected
for the ensuing yoar without opposi
tion: President, M. J. Walsh, Willtes-
Barre; secretary, James Gaifney,
Wilkes-Barre; treasurer, John McEi
wee, Plymouth ; directors, J. J. Quinu,
Pittston; John McKeown, Avoca.
It was decided that the next conven
tion be held the third Snnday in Octo
ber, at Parsons.

The funeral of the late John Murr iy,
