For the week ndl July 7 snip ments were only C27.0D9. a decrease compared with the preceding week (ended June 30) of over CO pur cent., tr. in round figures, a decrease of 743, 003 tons. In the latter week ship ments from the Wyoming region ag gregated 706 274 tons; last week they were only 885, 620 tons. The decrease in shipment from the Ltiigli region was from 189 024 to 103,401. and from th Schuylkill region from 418, 4S6 to 183.718 tons. Compared with the tittures for the sume wees last year shipments for the week endeJ July 7 decreased 22.891 tons, the Lehigh and Schuylkill regions both showing de creases, while the Wyoming region increased its shipments 44 130 The decrease for the year to July 7 was 2,008 584 tons. They lost the tonnage of trie Park colliery No. 2, owing to the destruction of that breaker by fire, This colliery's daily output run up close to 1,500 tons. The Glmbnrn eolllery, ownoil by the L high Valley Coal company, bus been gradually decreasing its nutpnt, the mines, it is said, being about worked out. The lower levels are flooded with water. The Primrose colliery, which thy recently purchased at public sale, i not in a position to do aiuc'n, until extensive improvements are made in side and out. Park colliery No, 5, one of the largest shippers, bus been idle for some time ou account of tire in No. 1 Packer mine workings, which is part of this colliery The other Packer collieries of the company and the Yors Farm colliery have all been very much affected by the recent floods and their outputs materially decreased. This is a Philadelphia Inquirer im pression: "After experiencing a tre mendous boom during Juno, when the output was considerably in excess of the greatest amount previously re corded, mainly on account of the strike in the soft coal ri'gious, the anthracite trade Is again Hut, with no ehauce of immediate betterment, according to T. H. Watkins, of Scrauton, who was at the Stratford last night. Mr. Watkins is a member of the great coal produc ing firm of Simpson & Watkins, which operates several of the largest collieries in the Wyoming and Lackawnnna valleys. The western railroad stiikes havH prevented shipments of coal to Chicaxo, and the effect is being felt at the mines, he said; but so far no signs of a coining strike bad been noted in the coal fiolda." For the past four months an arrange mint has been In force on the Central R. R. of New Jersey, whereby all the enulucers were enabled to make fair time. On account of the general de press ion in the industrial world, nnd H e increase in the size of the trains hauled over the road, there were more crews than were necessary. In conse qiince some of the engineers aud trainmen made poor time. Acting in tnat spirit of fairness which is charac-t.-ritlo of the Central company, the officials, says the Wilkes-liarrn Record, arranged to have a division of time. The passenger train engineers were (liven four days a week, and the re maining two days extra passenger and freight engineer ran their trains. Iu turn, the coal engineer) took the places of the extra passenger and freight uien. This system worked smoothly, nlthougU soino of the passenger men found fault. The latter, however, wer in n position to make from $90 to (120 per month, and therefore had no good reason to complain. Recently the passenger en gineers petitioned the company for full time. After considerable delay, their petition was granted to a certain ex tent. A readjustment wag made by the officials whereby each passenger engiueer will be able to make an aver age of 150 miles per day. In order that this may be pnt in force, some en gineer will lay off two days and oth ers one day a week. This arrangement is entirely satisfactory to the passen ger men, but the other engineer are not so woll pleased. In the end, how ever, the officials believe that all of the employes will be satisfied. The pas senger engineers reoeive 3 cents a mile, and running an average of 150 miles a dav, their wages will not fall below $120 per month. Minor Industrial Notes: It requires 1,035 locomotives to do the misinees or tne isrie road proper. Two months ago the Pullman company declared a $800,000 quarterly dividend. The Erie railway is running an unusually largo numoer or. excursion trams tins sunt trier. The Louisville car wheel works bave snut down until the strike troubles are over. The Pennsylvania lines have bad no strive oi any importance in the last sevon teen years. Owing to the strike troubles the Vandalia has laid off a number of men In the various departments. The Reading company has added 1,000 hands to Its PottBVille shops, and they op- nnw uvcrwuia. The BlgFonr lines proper in Jnne earned $1,008,203. a decrease as compared with Jnne, 1893, of $199,200. The Illinois Central places its loss in earnings since the strike at Chicago was inaugurates at ov,uuu a any. The American line hat met the White Star lino's out on steerage passenger rates to Europe. It charges $15 lor a retnrn ticket. The cost to the United States of patting oown vu raitroao. ino iu vue west is est mated by government officials at fully $1,. two, 000. The superintendent of motive power of the New York Central has issued an order forbidding the manning of, engines with father and son. Senator Davis, of Minnesota, has intro duced a bill, making sleeping and dining cars snoject to tne provisions oi or, tne in terstate commerce act. John Miller, a farmer residing near Tamaqna. has been prospecting for min eral ou bis farm for a number of years aud has at last struck a vein of mineral, which py an appearances Is golu. . - Hereafter loaded Reading cars that are condemned must be immediately dumped. The company claim a big loss by having cars laden with condemned coal standing iu sidings for a lengthy period. Another enforced economy of railroads for the remainder of tho utr will be iu outlay for maintenance of way. Many roads will nracticnllv abolish this depart ment for the rest of the year. This saving will be a body blow to material and sup ply firms. Cuyle' Bros, have received from Coxe Bros. & Co. tbo contract to open up an other large stripping nt Buck Mountrain. It is proposed to hoist the coal on a four trucked plane and trauaport it to Eckley breaker on trolley cars. About u'.K) meu will be employed. Through car service over the Lehigh Valley, via the Grand Trnnk and tho Chi cago and Uniud Trunk, liiu been resumed, and tickets are now sold to points ou the latter west of Port Huron mid iu a few days the Lohigh Valley expects to be able to sill tickets to any point in tho West. Au electric coal mining plant has been established at lioicotirt, Kan., iu the col liery of the Bradley -Vernon Coal company, l wo electrically operated coal cutters are at prestwt employed, each machine having a capacity to undercut 30 inches of coal 4ai lineal feet in a day. Current is sup plied to the motors ou too coal cotters by an eighty-five horse-power 220-volt genera tor, which is of sufficient capacity to oper ate four cutting machines of the size in uso. The plant has thus far givon very satisfactory service. Colonel Dick, president of the Pittsburg. Sheuaugo and Lake Erie railroad, is said to contemtilate tho establishment of a liue of barges from Conneaut harbor to Port Dover on the Canadian side. The cars tiro to he run outo barges aud run off on tne otner side without anv additions handling. This cheap and rapid communi cation with Canada will give Pittsburg coal eutrance upon a territory now reached only by rail and will extend her market to a very considerable exteut. Iu addition to this haulage Colonel Dick ex pects to get a share of tho lake trade wheu the docks at Conneaut huve been con structed. Two Lives Saved. Mrs. Phoebe Thomas, of Junction City, 111., was told by her doctors she had Con sumption and Unit there was no hope for her, but two bottles Dr. King's New Dis covery completely cured her and she Bays it saved her life. Mr. Thos. Kggors, 130 Florida St., San Francisco, Buffered from a dreadful cold, approaching Consumption, tried without result everything else then nought one bottlo of Dr. King's Now Dis covery and iu two weeks was cured. He is naturally thankful. It is such results of which theso are examples, that prove the wonderful efficacy of this medicine iu Coughs aud ;Colds. Free trial' hottlo at Matthews Bros,, Drug btorij.
