Ripil Work at Shaft Sinking.
Contractor William Bynon, of Hamp
ton street, yetrJay completed the
work of siuking at the Hyde Park
shaft. The coutract was under the
Delaware, Lackawanna and Western
company to sink a shaft from the Big
Vein to the C'iark, a distance of 105
feet, which depth the contractor
readied iu 21 days, making an average
of five feet per day. which is pro
nounced by men who follow that branch
of business, as the most rapid piece of
work yet known to tnem

Exhibited Wonderful Nsrve.
A story that shows the remarkable
nerve of a common, every day appear
Ing man is just going the rouuds in
this portion of the city. The hero of
tho tale is William L. Mogg, motor
man ou one of the Sinth Side csrs, and
is as follows: Last Saturday Mogg was
hothered with an aching tooth. It was
so annoying that bo was obliged to
unit work. The source of the
n;i in was in the root of
tooth that broke off some four
years ago. He went home at once
after obtaining a substitute and de
tmuined to put an end to the pain.
He had an old pair of plyers at home
that he had used when he was em
ployed as a lineman some years ago
lie determined to act the dentist. His
first effort was to file ridges on the in
side of the pincers, and then procuring
a crochet needle he pressed back the
gum that had grown over the root.
Than placing tho plyers on the molar
lie pulled till it came out. It is only a
trilling occurrence, but not one man in
a thousand would be squat to the task.
A Bullet In His Head.
Jacob Rentschler, of Alder street,
will live to fight another day. His
battle with the king of shadows ended
iu a victory for hie side. The bullet is
-till embedded in his head, but the
ihysicians state that he can safely
carry it with him without fear of
trouble from it horeafter. In time the
hall will become encysted, and after
that remain a peaceful component part
of his anatomy. Dr. King dressed the
wound on his face for the last time
yesterday.

rick's Day. He lias been unanimously
