The thieves entered through a back gate, as the marks of a large pair of boots are imprinted to the snow. Other footprints show where they had tried to gat in through the side of the shed. The marauders must have curried a bag to put tbe fowls in as there would otherwise been a trail of blood from the several necks. At an early hour yesterday morning Mrs. Rebecca Griffiths, wife of Kben Her Griffiths, of South Main avenue, died after an illness of about! six months. Work Progressing at Dam. Notwithstanding tho prevalent severe weatner work at the new receiving dam of the Meadow Brook Water com pany that will be built ut Degau's lariu is progrossiug rapidly. Iwo largo gangs are employed, one on either side of the road. Tha men are iu charge of E A. Simonsou and James Couuell and the work consists of removing stump and dsbris preparatory to cleaning the bed of the dam. This latter work is expected to be eompleted next season and the work of constructing the dam and spillway will be proceeded with as soon as the weather is propitious. Odd Fellow Have a Rally. The James Connell lodge, Independ ent Order of Odd Fellows held a rally at their rooms on Cedar avenue last even ing. The hall was packed aud an in teresting programme was rendered. The Pine Brook branch of tha St. Vincent de Paul society gave a oleasaut entertainment and social in Excelsior hall on Wyoming avenue last evening Th large attendance taxed tho hall to its utmost capacity. Chairs were at a premium and over a hundred person were compelled to stand. The entertainment was first class in every respect and thoroughly pl4sd the audience.
