Thursday evening an accident occurred
which tame near precipitating a
panic. Tne building where the
fair is in progress is an im
provised affair, being covered with
hemlotk boards. On the night in ques
tion 8 o'clock saw the building
comfortably filled, in fact paeked. A
few minutes later the crowd was aug
mented by 200 or more persons from
this place who had come to witness the
entertainment. Their presence paked
the bnilding to ovarfliwing an I manv
were compelled to leave fearingthe

As the performance progressed a
large number of persons in order to
find room made their way to the dress
ing room itago. Its delicate construc
tion cansod the throng no fear until all
of a sodden it gave way without a mo
mailt' warning. Notwithstanding the
stage was but a few foet elevated from

precipitated into a struggling heap of

To add to the confusion, the poor ven
tilation of the hall, together with the
excitement occasioned by the accidont,
canned many pirsons to faint. Fortnn
ately, however, nobody was seriously
injured, the most severe being a young
girl who bad a lag painfully bruited.
The accident caused n temporary
suspension of the festivities, and to
Father McCabe much crodit is due for
his promptness in bringing order ont of
chaos, thereby averting what might
have proved a serious calamity.
