—There is an instit o tion at Dusseldorf,
Prussia, estabtished bythe celebrated Pastor
Fridner,- for the training of, Deaconesses,
who resemble in ninny respects the Catholic
"Sisters of Charity." alley wear a neat
uniform, resembling the dress of Quaker
ladies. They have been found specia l use
ful as assistants to foreign missionaries. In
thd year . 18 6 1, the fi rst of these Deaconesses
arrived at Jerusalem, oir the invitation of
Bishop Odra, and soon proved that they
were invaluable assistantii to the Bishop and
to the physician of the English hospital at
Jerusalem. -
—Ocorge Lazarus, Esq., prbprietor of the
Eagle Hotel, Pittston, Pa., had several rale
rio chickens sent him last winter by his lion
froM Leavenworth, Kansas. In preparing
them for cooking, some corn was found in
their craws. This' Mr. L. planted this
season mid raised therefrom a bushel and a
half of corn. Ono ear conAted 964
kernels.
—By the failure of tho old Bank of North
Carolina, which is roport4 the Mato of
North Carolina will lose $500,000 of its
Literary Fund, mid the University of North
Carolina $125,000. Other funds, the prop.
orty of widows, orphans and charities, will
also be lost. This bank was at the close of
tho war in a better condition than any other
in the State.

—A row nin a lodging house in Spring
stroet, Now York, on Saturday, resulted in
the prqprietior, Bernard Mehotens, being
stabbed in thaabdomen,leg and arms by John
Stanley, who hlso stabbed John Vickers in
tho log and arm. Mehotens will probably
die from his injuries:
—Mrs. Garret Albertson, aged 18 years,
was, drowned kast week at White Haven,
while getting water front the Lehigh river,
Her husband missed her at noon, and found
her bonnet in the river, where her body was
afterwards found.
—The ex•queeri of Spain left behind her
ono hundred and seven carriages, several
splendid Arab and English horses, as well
as the finest collection of mules extant, in
the coach houses and stables of her royal
palace at Madrid.
—On Tuesday night, in Carbon county, a
stovo pipo in the houso of Dr. Ventz fell
down, and ono of the doctor's daughters,six
years old f was suffocated. The
