TSCAS43I IN THE NEW YORK CUSTOM HOME :saa
Extraordinary developments have recently been
made in the city of New York. Henry B
s wi m, the Deputy Collector of the Port, and
0 ,6,- prominent Black Republican officials, have
been detected in the act of sending merehandize
so d supplies, in violation of the law, to the Rebel
alogorities at Richmond, of course theeiving
loge pay and proms from Jeff. Datritee govern , -
meat. Some rich exposures are expected. Here
We have another evidence of the honesty and Thy-
dry of some of the Lincoln officio-holders. Noth•
icg is too dishonorable for them to do if they
can fill their pockets with money. Our readers
mutt not expect to find out much about this real
treasonable plot from the Administration papers.
Tee are too busy in hunting up imaginary trai
tors among the Democrats. to give any attention
to the heinous wrong-a that are going on amongst
their own intensely "loyal" friends, and "sup
porters of the government."

The Battle at Lookout Mountain.
GENERAL MEWS'S ACCOUNT OF THE
AFFAIR
Great Gallantry of our Troops.
IVamtnoTos, Wednesday, Nov_ 4, 1863
The fullest official or semi-official deecriptiott
yet published of the. recent affair at Lookout
Mountain is contained in the appended dispatch
of Quartermaster General Aleigs. The conduct
of the 11th Corps, who, on their way to support
the 11:th, were assailed on the Hank by a severe
fire irom the Rebel batteries, is highly commend
ed. The assault of a portion of this Corps up
the hill, driving the enemy from their rifle- pits
sod rupturing the Rebel batteries, was Admira
bly planned and wetly executed. It proves that
the 11th Corps is all that was ever claimed for
it, a good fighting corps -
CHATTAN4xKLAjenn., Oct. 29, 1863
Has. E. M. STAIITOA.Cretary of War.
"Last night the 11th Corps hotly entered on
this centred campaign. Gen. Cleary, some four
miles up the lookout Valley, being attacked by
Longstreet, the 11th Corps, about 1 o'clock,
marched to his (Gearfe) aid, passing two steep
wooded hills, about 150 feet in bight,. They
received a volley from a Rebel force which had
occupied and intrenehed their summit
"After dark, four regiments assaulted the
east hill, and without firing a shot, steadily ad
lanced by the light of the moon and drove the
hebels out of their rifle-pits and down the other
slope of the hill.• Thirty one dead soldiers at
test the difficulty of the assault and the valor and
steadiness of our own troops, which, in a night
attack, accomplished one of the most brilliant
feats of the campaign.
"Only after walking over the ground to-day
do I fully appreciate the exploit. When three
hills were taken they marched to the assistance
of Gen. Geary, who had held his position, and
Lougstreet was driven back with slaughter. As
prisoners from two divisiota4 attest that his
(Longstreees) whole disposable force was en
gaged, tho whole affair is most creditable to
awn Corps from the Army of the Potomac.

CIIARLESTON, I , IOV. 1, 1863
The bombardment of Sumter continued fiercely
without intenuiocion last night and to day. Me
P. M. the shots average four per minute.
Toe firing has been from two monitors—two

On Saturday night 70 rifled ahota were fired,
mostly with time fuses, and 33 mortar shells.
The fire of the land batteries wasdirected chiefly
at the south-west angle of the fort.. The flag
