An Appeal from Democratic Soldiers to their Fellow-Citizens. The following appeal comes from true and 4 i t d soldiers of the Army of the Potomac, who not be furloughed to come bonus and vote. l: is ytnnifie, forwarded to us by as brave a man yi Mr laced an enemy. IfrAce2CARTERS, ARMY POTOMAC, NEAR CULPEPPER, VA., Sept. 29, 1892. 7,.:1.7 rotes of Penney/yenta FLLLOW-CMZENS OF PIPNBILVANIA:—We ask y attention, while we say a few words in re >lien to the election soon 10 lake ranee_ The Democracy of the Army of the Potomac ster their solemn protest against the course pinuei by the friends of A. U. Curtin in the ;late canvass_ .1 certain class of newspapers are filled, week :y, with resolutions purporting to have their iTigin in this army, endorsing the actions of (lir. Curtin, and urging his re-election, on the ground that he is the "soldiers' only real friend." A few of these resolutions are genuine ; but fir most of them are manufactured at home for t• political effect." The manner in which the vote is taken on the rs?res that are sent from the army is this: "All o;pooed to the resolutions step to the front of the company." Is there anything fair in this way of taking a vote Is it an honorable way? Is it not an mposition on the good judgment and intelligence of the soldiers comprising our army ? Why was not the ss affirmative" of the Ties- ti.a voted upon first t Why are they linked in v:th ether unexceptional resolves Why were fol nut submitted fair and square to the men? ?love ic , no doubt, good reason for it. The offi tett rho get them up know what they are about. Tory know very well that, if the question was irciorly put, they would be voted down, and it vto necessary to couple them with other resolves in order to blind the eyes of the unsuspecting s tidier. way were not the resolves published with the LSI:I« of the officers who were instrumental in going them up and passed? Are they afraid tr are they ashamed of the deed? This looks We denounce such acts as unfair and fraudu lent. No good can result from such outrages N - 4:in the right of suffrage" as exorcised by ue in the field. Fellow citizens, be not deceived; these reso kilns endorsing Curtin and recommending his re-election, are Roe the true, untrammeled aentiment 4 ! t Soldies—they are forccd from egtrtained or voluntarily given. Hiul we the legal and constitutional right to vote here in the field, thousands of the votes that hare been fraudulently recorded for the Curtin TE ,, lrrs would be cast for Judge Woodward for governor. &lee Woodward comes up to the full require mats of the Jeffersonian creed—" He is honest —he is competent." Can this be said of A. G. Curtin ? Has not Curtin sold the honor of your State for his own tamest and political advancement? We pause ter a reply. Curtin, it is said, has done a great deal for the Pennsylvania soldiers; but has he dDne more than the law required him to do ? Every man in the State who pays his taxes has done as much for us as Curtin has. We know Teri well that he claims to have done more than an➢ other Governor in the Union for the army. If he has we never knew it, and he got well paid for it. We appeal to you, fellow-citizensto all true lovers of the Union and the Constitution—all Rho love law anti order, and all who are willing to sacrifice time and money, and life, if need be, hr the preservation of the old fabric—to vote for the great statesman and patriot, the soldier's tine friend, aROROR W. WOODWARD. In by-gone days we looked to you for aid and /union, and you gave it pith a willing heart 100 14 liberal hand. We ask you again for sap -15.1.---we appeal to you to redeem our native 4e from the tbraldom of Abolitiouiera. You pre it to the army that have twice saved the old Keystone from being overrun with the hell kinten of rebehlom—who are braving danger all the time for the glory of the old 11ng—who have to every battle held, from Yorktown to Gettye tiff& fully maintained the honor of the old Key- Ettne. We look to you to elect a good and true man tr, fill the gubernatorial chair of our good old I :.iunionwea/th. We are fully of the belief that 44 P Woodward is the only Ondidate capable ct filling that position with honor to the nation lu , d credit to the State. in conclusion we appeal—in the mime of the h t ,, •-«acy of the Army of the Pototnat—to 811 grA o l mai true men to vote for our true friend 14 ' 1 eupporter, Geoao■ W.
