"Gout' Paamisicus."—The following is from
the Cincinnati Commercial:—.• During the time
When Kirby di qh was supposed to be beleaguer
ing this city, the colored population were in a
condition of agitation not second in demonstra
tiveness to that prevailing among white folks.
An incident took place, at one of their "war
meetings," which should be recorded The able
bodied colored men were debating the propriety
of tendering their services to the Government as
volunteers for the war. The prevailing impres
bin had been that they ought to do it, and their
patriotic emotions were at high African temper
ature. But before the vote was taken. a tall and
very black fellow produced a sudden revulsion of
feeling by delivering himself as follows:—" I'm
in faTor of pin', and will go in a minnit, if we
go permiskus with white men. I'll tell you why
I'm for going permiskus. If we go permiskus
we'll have fair play. But let 'em get a reg'ment
all of niggers, and dey'll put 'em in de fore front
of de battle, and hose sides kill every one of 'em.
say so, ash (rolling his eyes around the audi
ence), and I ain't going' dat way, sah. I ain't
goin' a step, 'leas I go permiskus, No, ash."
And the able and eloquent Edhiopean subsided,
and a solemn sensational pause followed. The
eyes of the assembled darkies snapped white and
wild at the idea that to go in any other way than
•'permiskus" was certain death. And as they
thought the chances of " permiskus" were
not brilliant, the meeting adjourned without
taking action.

"Timm" SAHDINEL—Not long ago, a Western
landlord, somewhat noted for his blunders, took
it into his head to get up a ball at hie tavern.'
As ha intended to do the thing up brown, and
/MVO everything on the big-auger plan, he fan
cied that a few 'store fixing' would be a great
addition to the bill of fare of pork and turkey.
He therefore made inquiry of his friends, and
found that the only delicacy in market at that
"season of the year was sardines; accordingly be
sent to the nearest city for two dozen boxes sar
dines. His chirography, however, was so vil
lainously bad, as to make it read two duzzim
boxes syringes_" The night of the party came,
and as supper time drew near, the landlord
looked anxiously down the'street for the appear
ance of the stage which was to bring the princi
pal dish on the bilL At'last it arrived, and with
a package for the expectant landlord. Directly
there was a great outcry, and a sound of cursing
in the bar-room. The entire party rushed out
to see what was the matter, and there stood
Itoniface, as mad as a. turkey.eoek, puffing and
blowing with rage.
'See there!' said he, .see there ! T sent to
Dubuque fair two dozen boxes of sardines for
supper to night, and the cussed fool sent me
twenty-three boxes of them blamed pewter
squirt-guns, and says that's all there was in
the market!'
SIX LINES OF TRUTH.
Abolition tracto—Contracte
Abolition sense—License.
Abolition joy—Lovejoy.
A hard lot for the Republicans—Ballot.
The Abolitionists and Secessionists wish to
suspend the Constitution, for fear it will suspend
them.
Ber POPILINS suggeste that if the price of
White paper gees up much higher, and the repu
tation of shinplaster* descends much lower, it
will not be long before more can be made out of
a bill by bleaching it white, and selling it for
paper, than by attempting to pass it.
