gtt V 1155. MONDAY, .TUNE 19, 1865. Public Entertainments. The heat of the past few days have kept amuse hunts generally, at a temperature as to profit and joss, considerably beneath that of the weather as ;Mer.sured by the thermometer: Indeed, we doubt - Whether anything but the sparkling vagaries or MIES Latta, at the Obestont-street. could havein • duped a reasonably fair-audience to consent to bake Or boll themselves nightly in the search for emus& lA! ,, )WeVer, such has been the case, and even e muse yea consented, on the hottest evening In last week, to be partially belied or boiled, with 'the view of judging her histrionic capabilities lalrly. Renewer, in arriving at an honest 'conclusion respecting her, two or three poinea ought to be Clearly solved. The first or these is—" Miaa Lotta act as well when the thermometer ranges ever boiling beet, as she mfaht do when it is little above freezing point?" The next will be—" are we able to exert so much critical judgment when melt- In away between a large sized dowager, without a lan, and an elderly In , !ividosi attired in the best Saxsny broadelothl" We might continue, but it strikes us that thee* two questions are Conclusive. It, must be evident that Miss Lotta must be a much better actress when the temperature is milder, and that we might be lunch more critical. Therefore, 'let not Miss Lotte be offended with us if we do not appreciate all of herexoellenolea, nor let our madam sneer at our critical Capacity, if we are too lazy, with lalirenheit, or whatever it or his name is, standing at hiS or its present height. Miss Lotto is a sparkling little actress, standing some Sour feet nine or ten inches in height, with telling eyes and abundance of animal life in her veins. She dances viveolously and well, has a pretty Uccle foot, and a good stage pro neness altogether. Although very unlike Agnes Boucleault, sic Robertron, she possesses an ease Sad glitter which recall forcibly to our memorythat pleasant, although, also, Somewhat diminutive ac. tress. In a word—or, rather, in six words—she is petzllante, azd piquant. The piece in which we saw her is by no means a first.rate drama, Weverthelees, "The Seven Daughters of Satan" presents much to ns, which gives here tine opportu. alty for developing her natural and acquired quail- Jications. She acts a Yankee gal , ' in one por ta of it with great effect, and also with an eyed greater exaggeration bhe caprioles in this sea tion of her character in the most extraordinary 31:tanner. In another portion she executes a Hornpipe, almost bettor than we have recently flees it executed by anybody who wears sailors' jacket and trowsers, according to the stage out of this class of habiliment. liar banjo solo was also ludicrously telling. Indeed, we may &ingrate. late her upon having a great—pecuniary—future before her, should she possess the requisite twit, or procure an agent who possesses it, to develop her Capabilities for making money by her talents. In Consequence of the success which MSS Lott*. and " The Bower of Ferns" have met within Tartarine, and the conclusion of the "Seven Diughters of Eaten," this "charming" dramatic ode, with no plot, and certainly without any fine writing, Will be repeated during the whole of the present week, to numerous and, It is to be presumed, excessively approbatory audiences. On Monday evening the Webb Sisters continue their present engagement at the arch, appearing In the burlesque upon Boucicault's tiolleen liven," entitled . Mrs. Etly O'Clonnor,n to be fol. lowed by therdrama of "Nichalaa Islickleby.” The ,burlesque will be psoduced for the lust time in this theatre. At New York we aroientaked that Mr. Wheatley IS making immense preparation for the production Of " Arrati-na. Pogue," Honeinsuit's last theatrical Success, the tole right to produce which in Philadel phia has been purchased by the management of the Chestnut street theatre. The change in the fortune of the Winter Garden from the poor houses which It had been drawing, by the advent of Mrs. Hosmer still continues. The cod luck of Mr. ...quart Is proverbial. He brought Out Miss Heron, and saved the season at Wallack's Old theatre by so doing; now Le has brew: ht out Mrs. Roemer, and the public as greedily throng to see and bear her. There is some difference, as there al- Ways is, between the critics as regards her actual Standing, but what does this matter to Manager Stuart 7 Her *pular 2055018 is decided, and her IL exits are more than sufficient to maintain her in the position Slithas now acquired. The LOrtdoli Sunday Times gives us the following Obituary notice of 33. r.
