for an American Protestant Association, presented
the report of the committee, as fotlowo:
Among the favorable Indications of the times are the
tendencies toward union of feeling and effort among
the members of the various Evangelical Menominee.

ral 'philanthropic and benevolent movements; the
increased disposition to excharge pulpits un Use part

efforts to strengthen and extend Protestantism—all

lion of an assembly or an association, to meet annu
ally, and to be composed of clerical and lay dele
gates from every Evangelical denomination that is
willing to enter into the movement, and from Pro

be appointed by the highest eooleslastical body re
giresenting the deeondlnation.
The proposed °biotite of the assembly are tile fol
lowing
First. The official and public recognition of the
unity of the Protestant Church.
Second. The cultivation of fraternal feeling and
Christian co-operation throughout all Evangelical
denominations.
Third. The extension of Protestant education and

land.
Fourth. The publication of an annual report that
will present an noortrate statement of the numeri
cal strength of each denomination in our land • the
condition and atreegth of Protestantism In Great
Britain. France. and other European countries,
and a view of all Protestant =Salons throughout

Such an etuociatten or assembly need not inter
fere with the ecclesiastical order or benevolent ope

Remarks on the report were made by Mr. Beaker,

Mr. John Wanatneker, of Philadelphia, present
ed a report from the committee of &flange wants,

adopted.
Mr. George R . Stuart invited the 'members of the
Convention to visit him at his country residence.
The invitation was aretpttd, and a vote of thanks
returned. Mr. Stuart presented each member with
a copy of the third annual report of the United
4 statta Christian Maslen. A vote of thanks was re
turned for the some.
The report of the committee on the plan for a
Protestant Assembly, was again taken up. Rev.
J o h n Moore, o f paisneelphla, Rev. Mr. Hine of
Albany, Si r. Vernon, Mr. Reed, of Rochester, int.
Elm, of Washington, moved that the report be
accepted and referred to a committee, to report in
the came formation st,t the next annual Convention.
Mr. C. A. Righ•er, of Brooklyn, moved to lay the

The ehair decined that that motion earned the

differed with the chair. An appeal was taken, bat
was afterwards withdrawn. Mr. F. W. Ballard, of

Rev. Jr'S. ditime, of New York, presided at the
openirg prayer meeting, and devotional exercises

and invited F. W. Bellbird, Bug., to open the Con
vention with prayer.
The reports of the Several associations were then

Mr. DicEnraey presented the report of the New
York Association. The report states that during
the year eighteen sermons have been preached and
twelve free lectures delivered ; ilfty.four young men
have procured employment througn the committee;
three hundred members have been added to the roll,
and 80,790 expended In the general work of the as.
societies'.
Dir. Pleasing presented the report of the Beni.
more Association. There are in that one hundred
and twenty active, two hundred associate, and fifty
subscribing members.
Mr. Mn-i.nard, of West Baltimore, presented the
Mort of that association.
Mr. F. W. Balliard then road an essay before the
Convention on the work. of T. M. C. ASSociatiOnS.

TEM TYPOS ON A VISIT.—The delegates
to the T} yographical Nationel Union Convention
visited the Cooper-Shop and Union Volunteer Re
freshment Salome, and the Navy Yard and war
vessels in port, yesterday morning.
At the Cocprr Shop the delegates were welcomed
by Mr. Charles C. Wilson, a member of the com
mittee, who briefly extended to them the hand of
friendship and the hospitalities of that great 'esti.
tution. Mr. W. gave a hurried reviser of the rise,
progress. and the present efloiency of the organi
zatiOD, daring which he paid a handsome (melon.
meat to the ladles. who first fed the soldiers, and
who, with others, oreanizedlthemselves into a ooze
inittee to oottinue the patriotic work. Mr. W. was
frequently applauded curing his remarks.
On behalf of the delegates,' Mr. Robert C. Smith
responded at SOW) length, and also paid a deserved
tribute of respect, to the ladies who initiated the
work that has been so faithfully kept up to the pre.

They were subsequently Introduced by Mr. Wit.

they were handsomely received by Mr. John W.
Hicks, on behalf of the committee of that great In
stitutinn. After partaking of a cap of coff.,e, hare.
the " Sorg of America' , was sung by a number of
the delegates. Mr. John Perry, the chairman of
the committee or arnamementg, wee now formally
Introduced to Mr. Robert G. Simpson, of the Ooo•
per Shop Committee, who, having received a peso
from Colrain Gillis, executive officer of the Navy
Yard, conducted the party to that plane, and also
to the war vessels. Tim delegates were received
with marked kindness on the part of the officer. in
command of the yard and vessels. In the afternoon
the delegates visited the Girard College, the roman
tic Wissahickon, and (Aber contagious fashionable,
and popular attractive resorts.

already been examined in all Its bearings, and, after
Inspection, had determined to offer $115,000 for the

'heard that 3,000 shares of the same stook was sold
as low as $1 per share on the afternoon of the day he

taken it at the price agreed upon, and thus Suffered
the loss; 1 should Consider myself in honor bound to
do so.

received them from the two women. He was also
