FEEDING the buoktails.
. A squad of the Bnektall Regiment stopped
At uiOAJooper*shop Saloon, laafcevening, where they
were fed. They remained over night. The vete
rans looked ■ well, and were decidedly happy. It
happened that two strangers followed them into
the saloon.' They attracted some attention. On
being questioned, Jone of them replied with a sort or
independence amounting almost to insolence, “ We
are deserters from Dee's army.”
“ what,” said Mr. Cooper, the president of the
instltntlon, "ir that’s the. case, this Is no place for
you 5 we feed Union soldiers herb, no deserters nor
refugees.”
” Wo are hungry and want something to eat.”
“ Well, yen can't have any thlog here. The Tuna
entrusted to ne must bo disbursed for Union sol
diers. 0o to the other saloon. They have funds
for refugees and deserters.”
The two rebels departed, satisfied, no doubt, that
they were served more than half right.
THE WOMBS OP STOCKER STREET,
Stooker street is a small local thoroughfare, with
in aflw hundred yardß west ol the Baltimore Rall
roaa depot, at Broad and Prime stteets. A bender
ot milk became obnoxious to the residents general
ly lor his expressions of secession nraoUvUleis, and
qalte a number ol them refused to take milk from
him. On Saturday morning, while serving the lac
teal fluid ,in that street, the people being la a state
«f consternation and grief, because of the national
calamity, he mad® us® of some remarks of an exalt
ing character Id regard to the death of the lament
ed President. The women, or at least the patriotic
portion of them, stung to madness by his remarks,
vowed among themselves to visit punishment on
the head of the offender. About one dozen of the
Ppartan mothers provided themselves with clubs,
and when the milkman made his appearance on
that street, on Sunday morning, they commenced a
raid upon btm, which was eminently successful. He
was completely surrounded, knocked down several
times in his effort to escape, and was finally driven
from that street, with a warning from the -heroines
that if he came there agaln they would kill him.
Bis horse, wagon and milk were left behind. They
were rorooved to the stable of Messrs. Benner &
Dowling, In that neighborhood.
