three- fourths of a mile from its confluence with tiie Big
Sandy, onemile from,the town of Waterloo, and six
miles from Franklin, the county seat of Venango coun
ty, ana within half a mile of the station, of the James
town and Franklin' BaUroad. About one-half of the
land is heavily wooded* producing a variety of superior
timber.
Theiandis designated on the original map of Yenango
county as the Dennis Job Tract; upon it are several
hontes, -barns, &c.
This particular location, although at present unde
veloped, will, it ie believed, prov« very productive, as
upon the adjoining property a natural oil spring has
been known for more than a century.

all necessary appurtenances, Hones, Bars, die., belong
ing to the Company.
From the well-known productiveness of all the land
on Oil Creek,sot asingle failure having yet been known
where proper means have been used to develop the re
sources of the land, and as the Company purpose sink
ing a number of new Weils on these leases, it is confi
dently expected that very important results will accrue
therefrom.
Thirty Thousand Shares of the Capital Stock will be
devoted to the immediate development of the various
properties of the Company, the Directors of which
pledge themselves to the Stock holders that nothing on
their part shall be wanting to render this one of the
most desirable in vestments that have yet been put be
fore the public, They also call attention to the follow
ing facte in regard to this Company:

The property of this Company consists of the well
known Martin or Standing Stone tract, and contains
from 2,600 to 3,0(0 acres of land* in fee simple, free from
leases, undivided interests, or royalty. Standing Stone
Creek (a branch of the Little Kanawha river), and its
tributaries pass through this property* and it has upon
it a 1 arger amount of boring territory than is owned by
any other company in West Virginia. It is situated in
Wirt county, near the celebrated Bath bone or Burning
Spring tract, and in extent of territory is five times
greater, and is considered by all experienced oil men
familiar with the oil district of .west Virginia quite
equal, if not superior, to the Rathbone tract. The
Standing Stone Oil Company's property extends from
the Little Kanawha river* near Burning Spring Run,
across the waters of Standing Stone Creek, including a
portion of Robinson's Fork and Two Riffle Run, and is
immediately in the Great Oil Break, extending from 1
Burning Spring through by Standing Stone and Petro
leum to Horse Reck Wells, near the Ohio river* and
embraces the line of upheaval.
The property of this Company has not been developed
for the reason that It belonged to minor heirs, who
could not convey until they attained their majority,
which the youngest did a few days ago.
, Wells are being boxed on the adjoining lands, and oil
had. It is said that upon this Standing Stone tract oil
was first discovers d In 1790,
On the Devore Farm, adjoining, a well is being bored
and oil obtained. The well of McFarland 6c Jones, os
the Morgan land, Is hear this property.
These lands are held in trust by J. K. Camden, Esq.,
President First National Bank of Parkersburg, West
Virginia, and the Hon. John S. Carlile, Senator in Con
gress from Virginia, and will be by them conveyed to
the Standing Stone Oil Company whenever the stock to
be disputed of by subscription; (to wit. 20,000 shares)
shall be subscribed and pud for. Three thousand six
hundred shares of the stock have already been sub
scribed and ptid for.

dical Department of the Army during the ensuing year,

next, the Ice not to be receipted for until its Quality, the
fitness of tbe ice-house, and the manner in which it is
packed shall have been approved by a medical officer,

, Bidders wiil state the bnxnber they wish to furnish,
-how soon they can commence, and the number they can
deliver monthly, and will submit a sample of the ker
sey of which tiey propose to make the Coats.
Proposals must be accompanied by a proper gua
rantee, signed by at least two responsible parties, set
ting forth that if a contract is awarded to the party
man ing the bid, that he or they will at once execute the
contract, and give bonds for the proper fulfilment of the
same.
The right is reserved by the United States to reject
any part or the whole of Che hide, as may be deemed
for tne interest of the service.
