on Roche Point. The port of Dublin Corporation has
given police that the fixed light now exhibited from
the lantern of the on Roche Point, the east
point of entrance of Cork harbor, will, on and after the
evening of the Ist December, 1854, he changed to a. rsr
vohtiTgred light, ahowingita greatest brilliancy once
in every minute- , _ .
Additional light to mark position of Daunts Rock.—
Also, that on and after the evening of the Ist October,
186*1, a Jtic-ed white light will be shown from the ;base of
the came ligh fc-tower on Roche Point, to mark the posi
tion of Daunts Rock, « , -
Tbe lights wiil be visible between the bearings of N.
E. by E. and N. R. H W.* or between Roberts Head and
a distance of half a mile to theeastward of Daunts Rock.
Mariners are therefore cautioned,- when approaching
Cork harbor et night, to keep eastward of the limits of
the fixed white light until they have pawed the rock.

December, 1864, for supplying the Light House Esta
blishment with thirty thousand gallons of the best
quality pore winter stmaed lard oil, and twenty
thousand gallons ofthe best quality pure winter Btrained
sperm oil, to be divided into lots, and to he de
livered at the times undermentioned, alongside of the
Government supply vessels, or at the warehouse or
other p-ace of deposit, to he designated hy the Inspect-'
ing G£Seer, or other authorized agent of the Light-
House Board, in strong, tight,-iron-bound, well-made
casks, suitable for shipping, in good order, of a capacity
each of from fifty to eighty galione; not to -exceed the
latter. The lard oil may be delivered at Boston or Na w
York.
Either lot of roerm oil, or both of them, may he de
livered at New York, New Lo&don»Bag Harbor,Boston,
New Bedford, Erf gar town, or Nantucket, at the option
of the bidders. The place of delivery in each case must
he distinctly stated in the bids, and will be embraced in
tiie contracts.
The four lots will be delivered as follow*, viz:
Lot No, 1. Ten thousand CIO,(XX)) gallons Sperm oil on
ihe Sfchdayof April, 1855, or as. scon thereafter as the
proper tests and gauging caw ha completed.
Lot No. % Eifteen thouf aud (15,000) gallons lard oil
on the 16th day of/April, 1865, or as soon thereafter as
the proper tests and ganging can be completed.
Lot No. 3. Ten thousand (10,000) gallons sperm oil on
the Ist day of June, 1565, or as soon thereafter as the
proper tests and taugirg can be completed.
Lot No. 4. Fifteen thousand (15,000) gallons lard oil on
the Ist day of August, 1865, or as soon thereafter as ihe
proper teste and gauging can he completed.
No bid will be considered unless from a manufacturer
of the article. - . .
No part of the oil proposed for; and to be embraced, in,
the-contraclß under this advertisement will be accepted,
received, or paid for. until it shall have been proved, to
th e entire satisfaction of the person or persons charged'
with its examination, test, and inspection, to be of the
best quality pure winter strained or bagged oil, and
free from mixtuxe with other or inferior oils and adul
terations. ■ ■ '
The usual means for determining the character ana
quality of the sperm oil will be employed, viz: specific
gravity, burning, the amount of residuum, and any
other proper tests to arrive at correct conclusions that
may he deemed necess&iy.
The lard oil will be subjected to special tests, and
will he rejected unless found to be, in regard to burn
ing and fluidity under reduction of temperature, and
in every other respect, equal to thit .of the standard
adopted by the Beard, of which a sample will be fur
nished on. application to the Light-House Engineer at
The casta must he gauged under the direction and
•personal supervision of the inspecting 'officer, by a
custom-house or other legally authorized and sworn
gauger, according to tlie-United States standard, and
xnust- marked and accepted before they are removed
from the cellar or warehouse ofthe contractor. The
temperature of the oil w ill be accurately noted, and the
measurements reduced to the standard temperature of
60 degrees Fahrenheit hy tables prepared for the pur
pose. ?
FroporaJs will be received; and considered for each
lot separately, or for all of the lots, at the option of the
bidder; but no bid will be considered for a lessquanfctty
than that specified as one lot, to be delivered at one
time and place. Each bid must state explicitly the rate
per gallon, in writing, the number of the lot or lots bid
for, and the time and place of delivery, conforming to
this advertisement.
Bids submitted by different members of the same firm
or copartnership will not be considered. „

Department, reserves the right to rejest any bid, al
though it may he the lowest, for other considerations
than ihe price. „

part met, in a penally equal to one-fourth of the amount
of each contract made under these proposals, will be
required of each contractor, conditioned for the faithful

thereto must guarantee that the goods shall be. in every

ana Buoy, and other depots that may be established
during the above year on the west bank of the Muaouri
river, north of Fort Leavenworth, and south of latitude
41 degrees north, to any posts or-stations that are or
•may be established in the Territories of Nebraska, Da
kota. Idaho, and Utah, south of latitude 44 degress
north and east of longitude 114 degrees west, and in
toe Territory of Colorado north of 40 degrees north.
