yesterday examined at Messrs. S. Maeferran &
Oo.’s, No. 721 Chestnut street, a patent Washing
Machine wbiok ought to find its way into every
household. The Machine is the invention of Mr
John S. Lash, of Carlisle, who oan he soon at 721
■Chestnut stroet, for a few days, in reference to tlio
purobase of State and. oounty rights. As wo in
variably decline endorsing . the value of any patent
.articlo until It is pmotically demonstrated In our
presenoe, we subjected this maohine to a like ordeal.
The inventor availed himself of several well-soiled
■Sheets, one ,>dr>two shirts, and a few dirty ool
lart, wliloh, with the aid of a bucket of hydrant
■water and a little hard soap, ho presented per
fectly clean in an incredibly short time by the '
aid of this machine. Tho latter is tho most stmply
oonstruatod Washing Machine over offered to tho
publlo. Its modus operands is almost oxaetly the
name as hand washing; oxoopting that It is loss in
jurious to'the fibre of articles wasliod. As a tort of
this, Mr. Lash thrust in a twenty-dollar groonbaek

ly thirty seconds as clean as a how pin; the greenback
suet but uninjured. The machine can bo used with-,
out splashing a drop; .any port of a garment can bo

find that so competent and enterprising a man as

Scantling, with one-inch, boards for sides, roofs, and
floors—foere being about an eaual proportion of Waite
Pine and Hemlock, and Spruce lumber—and care has
been taken that the material should remain, so far as
practicable, in lengths as sent to.market.
Bids may be tendered for the Buildings, &a they stand,
exclusive of Union Arenas and thu Art Gallery—or for
- each separate structure—with the understanding that
they be taken down and removed by the parties pro
posing within two week? after the. acceptance of i>ro
*poial; and/ in takiug down the buildings, all materials
other than lumber shall be carefully laid aside.for the

• The Art Gallery and Union Avenue must be bid for as
: distinct structures. The fonner is a brick-paved build;
: ing, covered with a tin roof, and lined with tongued
and grooved boards. The latter is formed with 54
rafters, of the Howe truss, 2 feet deap and 60 feet span.
The purlins are 3 by 6, about 20 feet long, with sheeting
for roof 1 inch thick, all of White Pine.
The Committee reserves the right of accepting any md
that may be presented, or of rejecting any or ali, should
the offers not prove satisfactory.
