FIELD MEMORIAL.
AN APPEAL
TO LOYAL PENNSYLVANIANS.
The •‘GETTYSBURG BATTLE-FIELD MEMORIAL
ASSOCIATION ” was instituted for the purpose of so*
cluing forever the principal points upon the great
battle-field of the war, in th e exact condition in which
they were left in July. 1563. when the rebel hordee of
the invader Tee were driven back from the free soil of
Pennsylvania. and when the the gallant soldiers of
General Meads remained in possession of the field
which they had won by their valor. The Association
have already secured the purchase of Cehbtebt Hill.
Gulp's Hill. Granite Spur, and Round Top, with the
entrenchments thrown up just upon the eve of the great
conflict which was the taming point In the career of the
rebellion. The field, with its redoubts, wocderfal stone
defences, it* timber breast-works, its forest heights,
with the tTees torn by shells and count’ess bullets, and
Its long lines of earthwork defences, have all'"been pre
served intact, and to so continue to preserve them, as to
he A monument forever of the greatest of American
battle-fields. Is the object of the formation of the Asso
-ciatlon. To enable a large number of persons to join In
this patriotic work, the projectors of the plan placed the
subscriptions at ten dollars each. The payment of this

xectly with the field where the lorry heroism of hi s
countrymen vindicated the integrity of the Union and
ihe principles of Freedom ? And who would not desire
hand down a» a precious heir-loom to his children
the evidence of his part in the good work, bearing, as
the certificate will, a view of the field which will rank in
hiitory with Thermopylae. Marathon, and Waterloo ?
There are no salaried officers in this Association, nor
are there any objects in view in its creation other than
those already elated. The grounds were purchased
from their ongii al owners at the exact price to be paid
for them b? the Association, and the points selected.and
ihe prices to he paid for them, met the unqualified ap
roval of a committee of the Historical Society op
Pennsylvania, appointed for th 9 purpose of visiting
‘he field.

CLES of the Great Central Fair of the United States Sani
tary Commission was held at the office of Messrs. B. &
Q A. Wright, on March S 3, 1564, at o’clock P. M.
Mr. B, P. Taylor, chairman, presided. Mr. A. W.
Harrison was appointed secretary.
Thefollowing resolutions were adopted:
“ For the appointment of a committee to prepare a cir
cular soliciting contributions of Perfumery and Fancy
Articles for the Fair.” Committee: Messrs. Taylor,
Glenn* ana Woreley*
B"For the snb-divUlon of the General Committee into
sub-committees of two members each, to solicit in per
son contributions to the Fair; the chairman to appoint
the committees.”
It was also resolved that the members present should
send to the chairman the names of all persons likely to
contribute to the Pair in 1 he lino of Perfamory and Fancy
Articles.
The meeting then adjourned to meet on Wednesday
next, at 4 P M ,at Messrs. B. & G A. Wright’s. Pre
sent-Chairman, R. Wright; Messrs. Bazin, Mcßeon,
McClean, W. C. Taylor, Hameriek, Kouesel, Worsley,

ring the week. Harps from Ireland, Old Battle Flags,
Old Books, Letters, weapons. Ac., belonging to Emmett,
Tone, Fitzgerald, and other Irish Heroes. Souvenirs
from the Ladies in Ireland.*
The FENIAN BROTHERHOOD are making prepara
tions for a GRAND IRISH NATIONAL FAIR, to take
place in Chicago, at Bryan Hall. The fund arising from
the Fair will be devoted to the National Purposes of the
Brotherhood.
The Ladles in Ireland furnish sundry articles —Harps,
Books, Flags, Weapons, and miscellanea which belonged
to the Heroes of Ireland, or whlcb are valuable from
association or intrinsically. Bog Oak Jewelry will form
a conspicuous feature.
Donations are solicited from every Irish person in the
land. Those who cannot*end articles may send money.
Any article will be received, and any sum, however mo
dest- Farmers ia the Northwest are requested to send
in anything in the shape of Produce. Official aokoow
ledgmento will be made by the Brotherhood in the pub
lic prints.
Each State will have its table.
Upon the opening of the Fair thp articles received from
Ireland will be put up in Lottery.
Any persons who cannot visit the Fair, can, by remit
ting to the undersigned, take chances in the drawing.
The numerous Book*. Pictures. Weapons, Letters, Pl&ga,
Ac., celebrated in Celtic History, will be disposed of ic
this manner. Schedules of articles, with number of
chances to each, and price, will be duly published.
For the week of the Fair, distinguished Irishmen are
engtged to Lecture, whose names and subjects will ap
pear m due season. After the Lecture, each night, there
will be a Celtic Concert, by distinguished Irish profes*
Blonalß, at which the National Instruments will he used
and National Alia played and sung.
We make an appeal, confidently, to Irish men an
women everywhere in the United States. Send forward
by express anything that may be available Let thi
Irish Ladies work, and convince the people at home that
they assist themselves, Ladies in Eastern and Western
cities can form committees and furnish a nice collection.
