The expense of recruiting the 64th and Csth Massachusetts colored regiments was over $30,000 per regiment, but after careful consideration or the whole subject the Supervisory Committee thought it could raise the three regiments promised the War De partment at $lO, OOu per regiment. it has collected $33. SfcB (above mentioned), and on the 28ih day of June, 1663, sent the first squad of eighty men to Gamp William “ P6 On the 24th July, 1863, the Ist (3d U. Thus the committee have raised five regiments with the fund estimated as necessary to organize three. It haß also recently opened a'Free Military School at its headquarters, 1210 Chestnut street, under the care of J« hn H. Taggart, late Colonel of the, 12th Begunent Pennsylvania Reserves, and has at thistime 161 scholars. All the students that have been Bent before the Exami ners at Washington have passed, an d are now officers of Colored Regiments Two additional Preceptors b®e» fenga*ed for the School—viz; an Assistant to teach Tac'ica and Army Regulations, and a Professor to review the students in arithmetic and the higher mathematics, geography, and history. The Committee having nearly exhausted the funds en trusted to it, auAheUeving its power to recruit colored troops economically is by no means at an end, has asked and received permission from the War Department to continue its work. It therefore solicits from citizens* and from the Banks, Insurance Companies, Railroad Companies, and other public institutions, renewed aid.
