REAL CONSUMPTION, IN. SECOND STADE, PER. -

One year ago last May, while living in Washington, I
-was attacked with hemorrhage of the lungs, brought on,
as was then supposed, by heavy lifting and then taking
a heavy cold. though I was not'one of the very strong
and healthy before that.' Soon after a cough set it . by
which twas very much reduced. I employed two of
the very best physicians in that city who gave me a
goad deal of medicine. but all to no advantage, for I
still continued to run down. I remained in:Washing
ton till about the first of April last. attending a :little to
business up to that time, when I was obliged to give hp
entirely and return to my home in this city. (Mint/elf
phia.) On arriving here I was advised by my friends.,
who had knowledge of great cures being. performed W
electricity. as administered by Dr. STEVENS, of 1415
South PENN SQUARE, and which seemingly were: al
most miraculous, having been given up As beyond dare
by the use of any medicine. This seemed Jaew and-
strange to me. of course, but as the drowning man will
grasp at straws without much hesitancy, I concluded to
try it. After only a few applications I found myself im-.
proving, and in a few weeks my cough and the. soreness
about my chest were all gone. My stomach and liver
began to - feel mien natural: appetite returned,. bowels
became regular in their action, Whioh were very coast!.
paled before. and language is really inadequate to ex-
press my gratitude for such a kind deliverance. For I
am quite certain that without this treatment from Dr.
Stevens. I would now have been in my grave, instead
of being engaged in business again, in the enjoyment of
health, and a contort to my family and Meads:

taken np at the lowest point, beginning with. the "First
Lessons," intended for YOCUM' obildren who have just
learned to read, and is carried forward by a regular suc
cession of bo:,ks, on a uniform plan, as far as it is ever
taught as a school study.
2. THE UNIFORMITY OF THE SERIES. —This is secured by
carrying through the entire series, in a uniform manner,
every change or improvement adopted in any one of the
books. The scholar, in passing from a lower book to a
higher, has nothing to unlearn. Ther e: are no impedi
ments growing out of discropancieS in the maps, or
changes in the names and definitions. Whatever is giv
en in one book, if given in another, is presented in the
some form and order.

UP TO THE TIMES. -Geography is essentially a progressive
deuce. At the present time this is eminently the case.
There is hardly a nationality in the world which has not
materially changed its boundaries in the last ten years.
Sdentiflc and commercial travellers also are yearly trans
ferring large regions of the earth's surface from the un
known to the known. Tliit proprietors of Mitchell's Se
ries employ constantly a skilful geographer, with a com
petent corps of assistants, whose sole business is to keep
up the work of continual revision, and to transfer imme
diately to the maps and to the texts every change requi
red by political revolutions or by the progress of sciert

cally arranged, containing, at a single view, for conve
nience of reference, the names used in the book. The
Pronunciation adopted is that approved by the roost dis
tinguished linguists and travellers of the day.
