How TIM VIOP. PRESIDENT DIiESSES.
During a recent visit of Vise President Hamlin to
Boston he was pointed out in the street to a sailor.
Jack looked dubious, and said: "Tell that to the
marines. Do you suppose that Uncle Abraham
would letthe Vice President loose in that sort of
rig; See, he's got a cable•tier kink in his hat, and
he's pretty darned seedy all over. If he isn't one of
Jeff Davis' guerillas, he's in danger of being picked
up for one if he'goes where Uncle S am's :nen keep

this speech, and on his road back to Washington he
stopped in this city and purchased for himself an

SPECIAL NOTICES.
HAYS YOU A COUCH?—THEN USE JAYNE'S
EXPECTORANT. Do not allow' your cold to take its
own course. Two-thirds of the victims of consumption
owe their afflictions to the fatal mistake of "waiting for
a cough to get well of itself." Do not fall into this error,
but avail yourself, at once of a remedy which twenty-five
Years' experience has demonstrated is certain to prodace
a speedy cure. '
HAVE YOU ASTHMA OR PHTHISIS?
Then use JAYNE'S EXPBCTOR ANT, which will over
come the spasmodic contraction of the wind tubes, and
cause them to eject the mucus or matter which clogs
them up, and, by an easy and free expectoration, re
move all difficulty of breathing.
HAVE YOU BRONCHITIS?
Then use JAYNE'S EXPECTORANT. This wide
spread disease, which may be generally described as an
inflammation of the fine skin which lines the inside of the
wind tubes or air vessels, spreading through every part
of the lungs. is offen mistaken for Consumption. The
Expectorant subdues lisle Inflammation, relieves the at
tending cough, pain, and difficulty of breathing, and, if
the case is not of too long standing, will certainly pro
duce a cure.
HAVE YOU CONSUMPTIO ?
Then use TAYBE'S EX PECTO RANT. It cleanses the
lungs from all irritating matters, while, at the same time,
it heals and invigorates them. Of all the remedies
which have been offered the public for this dread disease,
nonnhave stood the test of time, or maintained so nut
versa' a popularity as this Expectorant. Thousands
who have been given up by their physicians as incura
ble have been restored to perfect health by its use, and
their testimony must carry conviction to all who read it.
HATS YOU PLEURISY?
Then use JAYNE'S EXPECTORANT. By taking two
or three large doses in the early stages of the disease, in
quick succession, and covering up warmly in bed, this
preparation acts as a sudorific or sweating medicine, and
subdues then iflammation at the outset. '
HAVE YOU WHOOPING COUGH?
Then use JAYNE'S EXPECTORANT. There is no re
medy which's() effectually overcomes this disease as the
Expectorant. What parent can witness the sufferings of
her children from this distressing complaint without
doing all in her power for their relief? What medicine
so pleasant to the taste, or so certain to Produce imme
diate benefit? Give it a trial, then, and. let it prove its
BADE YOU C ROUT' ?
Then use JAYNE'S EXPECTORANT. Children are
subject to no disease more sudden in its attacks, or, in the
absence of prompt relief, none more fatal in its results
than Croup. Parents. therefive, should keep at hand a
remedy sure and thorough. Such a remedy may be
found in the Ixpectorant, and every careful mother will
keep a supply by her.
JAYNE'S EXPECTORANT
Is a standard medicine. For thirty years is has been be
fore the public, and during this period its curative powers
have been testiflcd to by all classes of people in all
'quarters of the world. Physic ans, clergymen, lawyers,
merchants, and mechanics have experienced its remedial
effects, and have furnished us with their testimony. and.
It may be found at length in our Almanac. To their
convincing certificates we would refer the doubting.

A TREATISE ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE
STATUTE OF FRAUDS, me in force in Englandand the
United States, with an Appendix, containing the exist . -
ing English and American Statutes. Second edition.
Carefully revised, with extensive additions.
BYO
Since the publication of the first edition of this work
otter five hundred judicial decisions upon subjects treated
-by it have been reported; a number which bears so large
a proportion to the previously- existing casea of the same
oleos; as to show the questions which they include to be
much more prominent at the bar than formerly. All of
theme new cases (some of which, particularly from the
Englisla Courts, are of mach interest and value) are em ,
bodied in the present edition; generally in the notes;
ooMisionally with particular discussion or commentary
in,the text Important additions have been made under
several heads, especially those of Actions for false ran
reeenta Lions as to character or circumstances of third
parties; Actions upon agreements not to bo performed
within a year from the'making and the Acceptance and
Receipt of goods in cases of sales. The whole work has
received a very careful revision from the anther, and by
nondensing where it was practicable. as well as enlarging
where it was necessary, it is believed that its contents
are more increased than its BIM and that it presents a
complete compendium of the law to which it rolaips down
to a late period In the, present year. nolB mwfgr

There is something exceedingly fascinating in stories
like these. Beyond the interest engendered by the na
ture of the narrative, the reader gets to sympathize in
the pursuit of the criminal, and watches with relish the
closing of the, net around the object of the officer's
pursuit, Sown of these cos tests of crime with the agents
of justice are exceedingly amusing -"The &bony Box,"
for instance, where sturdy honesty and a keen perception
of character are engaged against a set of rascals, to the
discomfiture of the latter. Pablished
